5 miles on the track, hot afternoon. 8:47 ave. After 3 slow miles I wanted to run a quarter mile as fast as I could. I've never done this before so I did not know what to expect. My flat 5k pr is 6:37 pace, so I figured I'd be happy if I could pace the equivalent of a 6 minute mile. I ran 1:21, which would be a 5:24 mile so I was happy. When I took off I felt fast and strong, half way around I felt the lactic acid shut down my legs. The last quarter length of the track I felt like I was running about a 9 minute per mile pace. I was actually surprised I finished in 1:21. |
