My wife, Teresa, has stayed by my side for over 21 years and I am a much better person as a result. Kristoffer, our only child, is now 15 and continues to exceed all my expectations. If you look in the dictionary under the word luck you will see my smiling face.

I made my trip to the orthopaedist this morning in follow up to the MRI done on my left knee Dec 17th. As hoped there were no signs of damage to any connective or supportive tissues. The only note made by the radiologist was "nonspecific edema in lateral regions" which the doctor noted was his only guess as well. The doctor did show me how to identify exactly where the iliotibial band was on my knee so that I could better determine if the pain was from the band or elsewhere. Outside of that the only guidance was to stay on the anti-inflammatories as I ease back into running, try to run on a flat surface and go slow. So that's where things stand.

No real damage to the knee and after 3 months of not running I can start slow with dreams of being back to 5K by the early spring. *crosses fingers*

1.75 mi total distance. Walked 1.25 mi and jogged 0.50 mi.

Returning to running for the first time since the doctor gave me the go ahead. Walked 0.5 mi then jogged 0.25 mi. I ran too fast and the knee proved tender. So I walked another 0.5 mi and ran another 0.25 mi, this time focusing on a slower pace. Knee did not bother me so much. Finished another 0.25 mi of walking before going home.

There it is. My return to running. I have had no pain or tenderness since (about 5 hours) so I am hopeful.
