9:15 p.m.  Late start because we were busy with Max's Eagle Court of Honor.  Tami and Jens were going to play tennis, so they dropped me at Smoot.  I ran 1 mile to Freedom Hills.  By now it was completely dark.  On the way, Tami got me worried about snakes on the trail.  I ran 4 switchbacks worrying about serpents biting my ankle.  But none did.  I haven't seen any rattlers on the trails since May.  I think it's safe before 10 and after dark.

After FH, I ran back to Smoot fast to catch a ride home.  They weren't there.  I was so mad they ditched me, I ran home fast, too. The fast running dissipated my anger.

I don't know that 100 is going to happen in the next 6 weeks.  Maybe it's one of those goals that was a good idea at the time, but not very realistic.  Or it's one of those goals that if I stretched and worked to achieve it, it would be a worthy accomplishment

I remain undecided about Huntsville, pending Hobblecreek.  If I can't come in between 1:23 & 1:25, I don't think there's much point in going for broke at the end of September.  And if there's not much point in going for broke, I'm not all that interested in running another 3:12ish marathon; been there done that.

you are nearly 1/5 of the way there! i think you can do it in six weeks.

i think your plan of using hobblecreek to determine whether or not you want to run hunstville is totally reasonable. maybe consider a late fall marathon such as mesquite?

congrats to max.

and just to clarify, what i said above in no way means i don't believe that you can't pull off a sub-3 at huntsville. i just agree with you that if you want to go for broke and you don't feel like it's time, holding off for a bit is probably a good decision.

I appreciate the feedback, allie. You have a sense of my training and mentality, so, that helps. Mesquite, eh? Probably not quite the burner like TOU or Huntsville.

From Kam on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 10:00:55 from 68.66.163.179

Huh. That elevation profile looks a lot like TOU, minus 3000'. Thanks for the tip. Maybe I'll have to do both. I know you recommend 6-8 weeks between marathons.

I'm not quite sure what this 100 business is- for all I know you plan to run over a 100 snakes? Run 100 hills, run a 100 miles, kill 100 people...huh. The suspense is killing me (no pun intended). so I'll have to play catch up, however, I think you can do it...

Okay, Huntsville- I need to talk about myself first, because it builds on the next part! So, I am not going to run, I will not be ready on time. Therefore, my energies will now be focused on Halloween Half. However, I did get the day off and I would totally pace you the last half or 10k. You are sure to PR since it is a favorable course, you're in great shape and you now have a pacer:) Aside from that, I have no doubt you will sub 1:25 at Hobble. Whatever you decide. What marathons are you thinking for next year anyway? Any thoughts yet? Do you think you will do Strider's again?

Hi Allie:)

Forget that last comment. Replace it with DITTO:) ha ha ha

From Kam on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 16:01:05 from 68.66.163.179

The hundred business is the switchbacks at Freedom Hills. Up and down equals 1.

If I run, pacing would be helpful and welcome.

As for Striders, I don't know. I guess it depends if I draw out for Ogden this year. I'd like to try that series with a May marathon in sight instead of mid-April. It is a good bang for your buck, and I really like the socks they gave out this year.

From Tara on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 16:14:26 from 75.169.150.200

Yeah, I was thinking of Ogden too. I was also planning on Boston for April, but looks like I won't be getting a marathon in before then. I'm pretty sure my body is not made for Striders! Between the crappy ankles for the first 2 races and a torn glut for the 30k, I have discovered I am weak!! The socks were great and all the things they handed out too.

I'm with allie: use the half to see how you're going. If it isn't on, pick a different marathon, give yourself enough time and go for broke.

I think you are absolutely capable of reaching and even exceeding your goal at Hobble Creek. Have you ran the course before?

The last 3 miles are tough (mentally) but it is a nice slightly aided course.
