8 miles really easy at 6am in the dark cold air.  Love the summer when 6am is nice and light out.  But starting  to get used to the fact that this is the way it is for winter and will get even worse with the time change in a few weeks.  At least for morning runners ;D.   Did about 5 pickups for like .05 miles each so obviously not much.  First mile I was wondering if  I was really going to run 8, I felt so sluggish and I was worried about aggravating my PF symptoms in my right foot.  Still don't know if it is true PF as I have never had it and I have had a lot of back pain lately so could be a disc problem.  Hamstrings still a little tight so when I got to a stop light  I stretched those and other leg muscles and I felt renewed strength.  SHOCKINGLY I did an upper body work out.  Feel great right now but I am sure I will pay for it tomorrow.  I did planks times two-- 90, 30, 30, 60, 30, 30.  (my core was fine it was my arm muscles that were ridiculously weak and shaking espec. front plank after 60 seconds and left plank-- my left arm, I am right handed).  Then I did pushups.  Following the 100 push up model.  Never made it too far before because I would get side tracked with more running.  Will try harder this time.  Did the middle group (since I can do over 6 pushups right now).  That  group had me do 6, 6, 4, 4, 5 with 60 seconds in between.  Not looking forward to increasing the amount on Wednesday with sore arms!  Then I did side raises, biceps (two types), triceps (two types), rows, lay on your back and push up on weights (whatever are those called?)  That's it.  Did enough damage.  I have to say I was pretty down yesterday about my lack of fitness and my sad performance.  Hoping to pull my head out and feel positive about my goal to go sub three someday.    After I kept running today I felt a little more like myself towards the end.  This recovery has been difficult.  And Halloween (my favorite holiday) is not helping.  I want to eat healthy and there is crap everywhere.  I had pumpkin pie for dessert for lunch at work yesterday and it is not even November.  AP today with a 9:36 opening mile-- 8:29 for 8 miles.  Kinks in my legs are slowly evaporating!!  I forget how in the old days when I would only train for about four weeks for a marathon and run a 3:41 that it took me over two weeks to feel good to even run a step.  So I am making progress.

Awesome workout for a Monday Julie!! I need to start doing pushups. blah!

Question: Do you run with a headlamp/vest in the early mornings? I hate the treadmill but get so nervous to go out that early alone. I am a big fat baby I know!

Nice recovery work Julie, it is crazy how much our legs hold onto during recovery. We feel good, so we want to get out and run again, but our bodies tell us otherwise when we start. Nice job on the upper body workout as well!

I guess I should probably do some upper body exercises too....

From JulieC on Mon, Oct 10, 2011 at 18:26:18 from 207.108.176.69

surely Andrea that would just give you the finishing touches to pump those arms in a close finish...but hearing that YOU need to do arm work makes me laugh. : D You could try the Allie plank challenge. Last winter we were shooting for five minute front plank. It was a fun contest. I made it to five minutes. It was sooooo tough!! Hi Rachelle and Rachel!! ;D.

From Andrea on Mon, Oct 10, 2011 at 18:33:12 from 72.37.244.100

You did a 5 minute front plank?? That is such a long time! So who won the challenge?

From JulieC on Mon, Oct 10, 2011 at 23:03:16 from 207.108.176.69

blood sweat and tears oh and massive tremors but yes five minutes Andrea. I believe Allie won the challenge. I think she went over 5. She built up and then crushed the competition. I will have to go back and see. It was fun though. I found it worked really well on a full stomach so I couldn't think about food at all. I breathed like I was in labor. Pretty intense.

nice job, julie. i am glad you are working through the recovery process and getting all those kinks out. just keep being patient with your body.

great work with the upper body workout.

i just recently started doing plank again, but i have to switch it up from front and sides or i can't get through it. i have no idea how/why we ever did that -- pure torture! i looked back at my blog and i did a 5:01 on february 28th. i remember i had sweat dripping off my face and i was crying out like i was being stabbed. fun challenge! you'll noticed i stopped with the "long hold" planks after that, and over the summer i didn't do it at all -- too many painful memories. i think nevels went even longer than 5:01, and he did it with his sister sitting on his back!

Get those ferratin levels up so you can blast out the sub-3! I saw you are registered for Boston. You have a much faster BQ time than me so I'm sure you will be a corral or two ahead. I'm hoping for another PR this year.

From JulieC on Tue, Oct 11, 2011 at 11:03:44 from 207.108.176.69

A five minute plank is in one of those "would you rather" questions that we joke about when we are all icing ourselves in the river....WOULD you rather reach out and grab a hornet or do a five minute plank? hmmm....

Melody--- I will come back to your corral just to run with you : D. Apparently instead of goofing off like I thought we were going to (Mel and I) for Boston I am supposed to go for a PR. Looking forward to winter training and heading to my birthstate in April!! : D. Anything under 3:08 I will be happy with. Not even going to let my mind think it is trying a subthree. It might have to just sneak in there. Time will tell.
