Insomnia again.  Slept 9 hours Saturday night.  But restless sleep all last night.  Sorness almost gone.  General Conference was so nice to hear.  We sat on our couches with our kids and relaxed all day in our PJs yesterday.

Only one regret (besides the whole year of plaguing injuries and forced runs)-- FUEL.  Seriously ONE gu (15th mile ) the entire race and 5 pieces of chomps(9th mile), luckily 1/4 of a banana at mile 19 along with aspirating on 1/4 of a protein bar handed out by friendly volunteers :D.  The problem with not taking in nutrition is that if you don't FORCE yourself to take it (if you actually had some that is ; D), when the wall hits, you don't think straight to even know what is hitting you except the fact that you can no longer move like you were.  So 3:04:18 became 3:07:18 rather quickly.  But I PRed and it was miserable year and I suppose I will be back once I am healthy.  :D.  The first 23 miles were really quite wonderful, some niggles (hamstrings were bugging since mile one- but I tuned them out) but nothing like last years ridiculousness.  I felt strong up Veyo and awesome coming down at mile 15.  Splits pending the drying out of my watch.  I think mile 21 was a 6:27!!!

You really do have some serious mental strength. I need to learn from you cuz I'm really lacking it! Congrats again on a great race!

No regrets Julie! You can a great race and have nothing to be dissapointed about. It is time for you to get healthy and come back strong in 2013. Drive down to SF every morning and park your butt on the elliptical next to me. :) That would be so much fuN!

Big picture - you ran a marathon PR, and at the end of the day, that can't be taken away from you. Its a rock solid building block for 2013. Think of how many runners have pretty much perfect training all year, and don't run PRs in the marathon (like me). So - you have a lot to be happy about. You could have thrown in the towel at pretty much any point b/w March and October, and you didn't. That's the most impressive part to me. Also, you didn't do anything crazy in training once you started feeling good again in the weeks leading up to StG... maybe THAT is the most impressive part to me! :-)

Jake you really know just what to say to make one feel good about themselves!! thank you!! I needed to hear that!! The most difficult force was to be in a down year with many around me in a very big UP year. HUMBLING for sure. I think 2013 is going to change things around for me : D. I seem to be on an every other year running cycle ; D. I am starting to feel the fire I had in Summer 2011-- so with time off and smart training, I am ready emotionally and physically!! thanks again Jake!!

That's great, that you're feeling the fire... just keep it held back for a little while now. Give yourself time to full recharge. No nagging niggles in 2013! :-)

It is tough to see so many people running great when you are struggling at times... but use it as inspiration and you can get up to that level too.
