Trying out new mirages version one feels better on my feet and not so much of a "stability shoe" feel.  Woke at 6am. Drove the carpool for swim team practice.  Ran 6 miles (3 miles out and back, hilly) from the PG pool at 8:06 pace, first mile 8:46.  Last mile 7:43.  Changed into swim suit and swam my fastest over a mile yet this season-- 34:06 for 1800 yards (1760 yards is a mile).  This time includes two stops after 12 laps (36 laps is 1800 yards) and 24 laps for 30 then 40 seconds.  FYI I looked up about my mile time and for swimming in races swimmers are usually talking about METERS for the mile but only saying a mile = 1500 meters which is 1640 yards which IS not a mile but UNDER a mile so basically in an Olympic distance I would be swimming the mile in 28 minutes or less.  I wouldn't stop so I can take away that time as well and I seem to go faster in OPEN water.  I am feeling stronger and stronger in my swims.   I swa 6 more laps as well working on my breaststroke and a couple backstrokes too.  I really am not liking my foot problem--- tendinitis or tarsal tunnel?? I have a Dr appt in less than two weeks...in the meantim I am trying NOT to over do it and actually have NO ankle/foot to run on.  Remember when I said I would stop running when my ankle falls off?  apparently my ankle is trying to detach itself.  Double coupon shopping day with Troy and Courtney.  We saved tons!!  only 152 dollars for two cart loads. Oh yah.  Troy is really good at it!!  price matching is very beneficial when feeding my hungry little family.  Check out my face book for the link to a very cute video on youtube about Cookie Monster singing to the new popular song (that I don't like the lyrics too but cookie monster version ROCKS) "here's my number baby, so call me maybe".  Very cute and pretty much fits my family!!

Do swimmers really do that - call 1500 meters a mile? Its a good 20 seconds difference for a fast RUNNER... for swimming, that's a gigantic difference in time! Sounds like they are getting too much water in their ears, or need to repeat 1st grade math :-)

Jake, this is the article I read. I was happy I would actually be faster and NOT slower :D.

"The definition of a mile will vary depending on who you ask"

AHHHHH that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read!

1 mile = 5280 feet

There's no wiggle room or multiple definitions needed LOL!!!

in there jordanelle tri the mile is 1500 meters. FASCINATING. NOT even a mile and the fast women were swimming it in 27 to 28 minutes. So if I took off my rest time which I really do for a goggles change out and not because I need to (about 70 seconds) and the extra 3 laps at 53 to 55 seconds a lap I am at 30 minutes or less and I am not even swimming all out. It feels easy pace to me in the water. See how competitive I am that I even looked up times for women in the triathlon??? I was wondering how hard I could push myself on my mountain bike so I wouldn't lose too much time on the longest part of the race. I would be the fastest runner however and they only do 5.7 miles (not a 10k). Apparently the olympic distance has a lot of leverage. The fastest runner ran a 7:03 pace for the 5.7 miles and the rest of the women were in the 8s.

1 mile = to that buoy over there and back ; D

for the record I have been swimming 36 laps (as mentioned above) in a YARD pool and that is 40 yards OVER a mile : D.

Its like trail races - a 10K can be anywhere from 5.5 to 7 miles! Close enough!

Are you definitely doing the Jordanelle tri? We could lend you a road bike but I'm not sure either of our bikes would be the right size for you - Andrea is pretty tall.

I happen to have it off from work and a dozen women in my area have been training all year for it so I really wanted to do it. When I ride with them I stay up with them and pass them on the uphills in my mountain bike. So I know I wouldn't be last at Jordanelle, probably in the top 25. I was just deciding if I should do a race "handicapped" or not because I am not scared on my mountain bike. Perhaps I should try out my neighbors road bike and let you know. And to cut down on time I will probably wear the same shoes biking as running :D. I may even keep my suit on. It's all good. I am inexperienced so don't want to try taking off a wet bathing suit (no wet suit for me) in front of spectators modestly. I am sure I would goof it up. I am not in it to win it but in it to try my hardest. I came in third at my first and only try in 2003 in Salem. The first two women were on road bikes. I was of course on the same mountain bike I have today. It has held up great. The Jordanelle director told me I should buy road bike tires for my mountain bike as they have them. YIKES.

Yeah you'd probably lose more time on the transitions if you tried to get too fancy w/ the gear and clothes. Rely on the aerobic engine.

It would probably be a lot of fun and you'd do well. Road tires on the mountain bike would help a lot, though - so much less friction.
