Personal:

I am married with 3 lovely children 28, 20, 14 and a dog named Koda and a cat named Blue.  Love to run and be outside.  I believe that if you think you can do it and you work hard enough any thing is possible.   Life flashes by in the blink of an eye, enjoy it while it last and remember there is a lot more to life than running. I coach high school swim and love it!

Josse! I am so sorry. You were doing great and then I saw you at the finish and was completely shocked to see that you didn't finish that why I was like heyyyy what's up? So sorry! I am so glad I met you! Can't wait to see you again. Do you have any plans for another marathon soon? You are ready.

From josse on Sat, Sep 29, 2012 at 17:50:07 from 70.196.202.153

It was fun to meet you too.. I don't think so. I. need to figure out why my blood sugar drops or why I can't handle taking anything in a marathon.

From josse on Sat, Sep 29, 2012 at 17:58:35 from 70.196.202.153

Man another crappy marathon, I don't know what is my problem....I ate well, slept well, felt very ready. The only thing was I was on my period and felt drained from the beginning. I wanted to set myself up to run a sub -3 marathon and had 4 gels to fuel myself along the way. I ran around a 1:28 first half and was not feeling well in the head and was queezy took a gel at 5 and got a major side ache, took a potty stop and worked through the side ache and ran on. really felt like I was holding back bit the first part is steep. I could tell at 10 I was not going to make it just felt sick??? I wish it would have been different but I was not going to put myself back on the place I was at in my last marathon. it was warm and I hated the 10 o clock start.

6:35, 6:41, 6:30 kept trying to slow down bit it was hard, 6:34,6:37, 6:42, 7:07 potty stop, 6:45, 6:50,6:57, 7:00, 7:11, 7:12, this is where I started feeling really bad Rebecca was with me and trying to help me through it but she could tell I didn't feel good. I ran walked to 17 and decided to be done. I know it was the right decision but it doesn't make it any easier. I wish I could figure it out.

Are you anemic? That's exactly how I felt when I was anemic...seriously go get your ferritin level checked.

From Burt on Sat, Sep 29, 2012 at 19:36:58 from 72.223.86.148

Sorry Josse. Keep training hard! And remember when your cycle is!

Ah man. Gals I got to see you at the end. sorry things didn't pan out the way it should have. Gotta figure this out, then what's next?!

From JulieC on Sat, Sep 29, 2012 at 20:49:47 from 67.41.191.67

good move to pull out!! get your ferritin level checked!! it is not your iron level but your iron stores that matter!!

From josse on Sat, Sep 29, 2012 at 21:33:26 from 70.196.202.153

Thanks guys, I wish I could afford to see a Dr. and then have them tell me exactly what my problem was and then fix it. I do love this distance but it sure is beating me into the ground.

See, now, I tell people (men people) that they just do not understand how whacko female bodies can get and how much it can mess with running. they are so lucky they do not have to mess with all of that, it only adds to the "luck" of race day needing to be present!

GREAT HALF MARATHON!

Sorry Josse. I saw your post on FB... what a bummer. Glad your ok.

From Kam on Sun, Sep 30, 2012 at 14:52:38 from 71.219.15.115

Josse, it was good to meet you yesterday. I'm so sorry the race didn't go as planned. I know you weren't looking to complete a 17 mile tempo run yesterday... Good luck sorting things out.

From Smooth on Sun, Sep 30, 2012 at 21:53:37 from 65.130.14.36

so sorry things didn't pan out. you've trained so hard and so prepared. smart to pull out and save for another day. hope you figure things out and get back at it soon.

I didn't realize your marathon happened already! The marathon that wasn't. Man, that is a great half time, and how disappointing to be cheated out of a good marathon again. I don't know, I think the marathon just may not be your distance. You are great at training for them and then get burned so bad. I feel for you, Josse! Love you babe. You are in great shape and don't need a marathon pr to prove it.

From josse on Mon, Oct 01, 2012 at 07:57:19 from 70.196.197.223

Thanks Michelle, I don't think the marathon is a distance that is good for very many people. I do realize I have a lot stacked up against me but I do believe given the right day and course I can break 3 hours. But if I don't its not the end of the world. As long as I can run cause that is what I love. love you too babe:)

From Rachelle on Mon, Oct 01, 2012 at 09:48:59 from 159.212.71.77

Josse I am so sorry but I must say I am really proud of you for acknowledging when enough was enough. I've finished two marathons in the med tent with IV's in me and it truly is not worth it.

I most definitely agree that given the right circumstance you are 100% capable of sub-3. Take some downtime and just enjoy running for fun for a bit and take the pressure off. Then in the Spring when you are ready I think the sub-3 will come.

From JulieC on Mon, Oct 01, 2012 at 10:21:22 from 67.41.189.173

how are you feeling today Josse???

From josse on Mon, Oct 01, 2012 at 11:00:45 from 70.196.197.223

Thanks rachelle

Julie I am sore in the quads, like I ran Bryce canyon half. I went out for a 4 mile run and was dizzy at the end? I will take of easy for a while, well at least this week:) I do think I will go get some blood work done. Anyone know a good doctor that works with athletes and nutrition?

From julieesplin on Mon, Oct 01, 2012 at 14:06:39 from 75.169.182.193

That really is a bummer! You were ready for it too.

From Adam RW on Mon, Oct 01, 2012 at 21:59:46 from 67.182.250.241

Josse, Sorry about the marathon monster. My wife insists that we are all crazy and that the half is the only race that makes any sense. That being said each of us has our distance and for some it is 100 miles others 3.1. You will find yours. Good luck recovering and getting this figured out.

From steve ash on Mon, Oct 01, 2012 at 22:52:20 from 174.52.177.84

Josse, I think you made a wise decision based on what was going on. You know you have run some great races and I know also that a sub 3 hr is well within your capability. We ran a great race in 2008 remember? Just a matter of having everything line up when the time is right for you. Keep going and be patient, but most of all enjoy the ride because that is just as important if not more so I believe:)

From josse on Mon, Oct 01, 2012 at 23:24:05 from 70.196.193.112

Of course I remember Steve, that was fun. I will have and have had marathons like that one. Isn't that what keeps us going? I will be back:)

Thanks everyone for the word of encouragement, it wasn't my day and I didn't want to be sick like I have been before. I am at peace with it (after a small cry on Sunday) and can look to the future.
