I have five cute kids. And I have some rockin short green racing shorts- I wear them mainly because it embarrasses my wife so much. I like ultimate frisbee, trail running, reading, and cheering for the Denver Broncos!   And I have the absolute best wife in the world.  And I used to run for the now-disbanded national Team Pearl Izumi- Ultra!

PM- Since I didn't get my planned 50 miles on Saturday, I figured I should do a long run today.  I started at 2 pm and ran from my house to First Dam, then BST to Green Canyon.  Then I ran 6 miles up GC, just over 1 mile past the upper parking lot.  I started to hit big patches of snow just as I turned around.  Lots of bikers in the canyon.  Then I ran down GC and over to Paul's house via the canal.  I realized around mile 12 that my legs were more fatigued than previously suspected from the race on Sat, plus I bonked around mile 17.  But, I still averaged 7:10-7:30 for the last 6 miles despite feeling very tired.  Finished at Paul's for a nice Memorial Day BBQ with the Peterson's and the Campbell's.  I wore my new Nathan hydration pack today and it worked great.  Good investment.

25 miles total, 3:19:55 (7:60 avg according to my Garmin Training Center, which I guess means 8:00 pace), with just over 3000 ft climbing and lots of trails.  Not a bad day.  I plan to really push the mileage the next few weeks, especially since I don't have to recover from my ultra last Sat.

which nathan pack did you get? Do you have any advice on the best type of pack/waist strap for a 50K that has about 5 aid stations mixed throughout? I really have no clue what to expect...and the game is on this saturday.

Aaron- I have an HPL 20. Works great.

For your 50k, looks like 9000 ft climbing. That's a lot. Lets say 6-7 hrs for you (I'm just ballparking). You should drink about 20 oz per hour, so 1-2 bottles should be find, depending on distance of aid. Whatever you can find that is comfortable should work (go lite and nathan and ultimate direction all make good ones). I'm partial to handhelds right now, mainly Nathan Quickdraw Elite- it rocks!

I know, Benny. Heck, they cancelled our race on Sat due to a blizzard during the middle of it! It's been a very cold, wet, snowy spring for all of April and May! I want it to stop so I can hit the mtns!

Thanks Jon. I have a nathan waist strap that holds 20 oz. that I think I'll wear, since it can hold my s-caps and its light and I'm really accustomed to it, I guess that will be enough. I'll probably bring a handheld with me in a drop back just in case. I guess you mainly use the hydration packs just for longer solo runs without aid then, or races with longer gaps between aid?

Yup- only if there are 2+ hrs between aid, and it's hot.
