PM- Started my run intending to go 15-16 miles.  Instead, I discovered that my hips are still ultra-sensitive to running on hard surfaces.  My left hip started hurting by mile 4, caused me to turn around early, and left me slowly limping home.  I'm very, very, very frustrated right now.  It's been 10 weeks and I can't run more than 5 miles without pain, other than on dirt.  I'm afraid this  is going to vex me all season, with my primary hope that the melting snow will allow me to do most my running on trails.  11 frustrating miles.

Sorry about the pain my friend. Better to be patient and heal up fully for the long term than push it too soon (easy for me to say but hard to do I know). Hang in there.

have you thought about trying some five fingers? i had all kinds of hip problems last spring until I started running in those and minimal shoes. of course I traded hip and shin splint problems for calf problems by doing so. anyway, I think the five fingers are great therapy for strengthening the IT, hip, and posterior tibial tendons.

Sorry to hear running is frustrating right now. Stick with it, but be careful.

Sorry Jon. The only bad part about being a runner is the high percentage of injuries. I'm sure your doing everything possible to help heal the situation so I can't add any words of wisdom. I'll just add that I too hope you'll be able to run more on the trails up there after the snow is gone.

I think the running gods are just telling you pavement is evil. I'm having the same challenge with my knee. More than a few miles on the pavement gets it aching. My foothill trails were almost ready to run on then we get six more inches of snow last week. I'm about ready to take a sledge hammer to the treadmills.

Oh MAN! I'm sorry your hips are still complaining. My hip is still not 100% either, I'm just trying to do as much as I can without making it worse. Hey, at least you can do 5 miles without pain, right? Thats a start.
