AM - 13 miles. Horsepark loops.

PM - 5 miles.

Scott Wietecha finally posted his TOU race report. His writing and use of random google images is usually pretty entertaining. I always find it interesting to read non-FRB recaps of Utah races.

Also, Kim Smith is awesome. A true blue-collar runner. I wish she had signed with Saucony instead of New Balance...

  • She can eat an entire platter of meat.
  • Rarely gets massages.
  • Never takes ice baths.
  • Never goes to the gym.
  • Never skips a run.
  • Avoids running on trails.

Thanks, that was a fun race report.

I didn't even know peanut butter gels existed until he was complaining about it after the race. Its a terrible thing to be aware of. I love pretty much everything about the TOU races, but they need to re-think their flavor choices :-)

From steve ash on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 13:42:38 from 174.52.100.252

Peanut butter? The stomach churns ugly at the thought of it.. I'll swig on lime Gatorade instead thank you very much.

From Rob on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 13:43:35 from 63.235.131.194

I can't imagine anything worse than the Mocha Flavored ones during a race.

Maybe Lavender.

But Grape is the best flavor, what's his problem with grape?

From Jake K on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 13:45:37 from 67.177.11.154

Purple is a better flavor than grape.

The Lavender 1/2 is apparently cancelled for 2014. Too many people must have gotten violently ill.

From Tara on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 13:57:43 from 75.169.140.26

Hahaha! What flavor is purple then?

Lavender 1/2 cancelled? I'm for sure done running.

From Rob on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 14:13:53 from 63.235.131.194

They are replacing it with the sage brush 10K.

(that's a joke by the way, I'm pretty sure no one ever gets my jokes on here so I have to specify)

From Jake K on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 14:46:51 from 67.177.11.154

I just assume everyone is always being sarcastic.

I talked to the RD of the Lavender race a few days ago (to see if they were interested in joining the USATF circuit)... they are still going to have their 5K in July, but no more 1/2.

From allie on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 15:00:22 from 161.38.221.168

no sarcasm allowed. ever.

i really liked the gu-thrown-like-a-ninja star visual. fun recap. i'm so glad to know he loved the moose trophy. TOU! TOU!

Digging around in Scott's blog I found this which was fun.

How long could you run with Kipsang?

Couch potato: 20m (3.54 seconds)

Fairly athletic 12-year-old: 100m (17.69 seconds)

Five-a-day-eating, non-smoking, healthy adult: 200m (35.38 seconds)

Nauseatingly fit bloke you see jogging around the local park: 600m (1 minute 46 seconds)

The fastest person you went to school with: 800m (2:21)

A competitive county-level athlete: one mile (4:43)

Emil Zatopek, 10,000m world record holder from 1949 to 1956: 10,000m (29:18)

A professional half-marathon athlete: 13.1 miles (around 1:01.41)

Nobody, in the history of athletics: 26.2 miles - a full marathon (2:03.23)

OK, so I've been out of the loop.

From Jake K on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 15:24:22 from 67.177.11.154

Its OK, you're back in the loop and doing a good job of helping me make allie, tara, and steve wish they never left a comment here today.

FYI, I don't like my new desk job.

I'd be in Barcelona right now.

From Jason D on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 19:22:29 from 24.1.80.94

Huma gels all the way. Strawberry. I'd put that on some toast. Or on my new Paul-tested marathon breakfast: fruit. Any gel you are tempted to eat as a dessert is worth it. Not the greatest of desserts, but it is the only dessert-resembling thing I have in the house.

Is this Scott guy really from Greenville SC? That's where I am.

Looks like the little yip yip dog got pretty lucky.

From Jon on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 20:45:27 from 107.203.52.135

Well, at least it's still the best part of the country :)

From Jake K on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 07:10:18 from 67.177.11.154

Can't argue with that!

Lavender half cancelled? I'm officially retiring.

Great links Jake. Scott is absolutely hilarious. I have a peanut butter gel in my purse that I've been too nervous to try - so glad he could save me on that one.

From Jake K on Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 11:07:42 from 67.177.11.154

That's what Danielle said. Just the 5K next summer. I guess b/c of low turnout for the 1/2.

From Jon on Sat, Oct 12, 2013 at 19:30:02 from 107.203.52.135

Best fed!

I met Kim in Hawaii. She asked where to eat, I asked her what kind of food she wanted- I knew she was rad when she said "Anything" haha. She follows my super lame twitter haha.
