AM - 8.5 miles up to work... a couple of them w/ Andrea and Allie.

PM - 6.2 miles down to SHP w/ 4 mile tempo in 20:50... first three downhill, last one uphill - 5:10, 5:14, 5:09, 5:17. Essentially this was another hamstring test. I didn't feel it at all, so it passed.

Very cool! I think I'll have to skip my homework and watch this tonight.

The 30 for 30 docs have been fantastic. Last week's (Broke) was really interesting. If everything else they've done is any indication, this one will be worth watching.

Jake, what is your take on medals? Should people run for hardware? Does it diminish the sport in any way?

From Jake K on Tue, Oct 09, 2012 at 12:06:18 from 155.100.226.191

Well, I can't say that I run for "hardware" but I do chase fast times, prize money, winning, etc... and I don't think any of those diminish the sport. I think they enhance it. If medals are a way to commemorate a big accomplishment (which running a marathon or other races are) than I am all for it. Whatever keeps the stoke level high!

Medals are also awesome in swimming...

Dang it Jake! I'm at work!!

Ok, the reason I ask you that is I'm curious to know if you'd be interested in being on this year's panel for Marathon and Beyond magazine in ranking your favorite marathon medals for the 2013 edition. I was on the panel last year. You just look at 100 different medals and select your favorites, and make comments about them. I think you're a much more credible source than I am.

But I would just vote for all the ones w/ dinosaurs and wolves on them!

(Spitz is an American icon... if I could just find that bathing suit...)

From Burt on Tue, Oct 09, 2012 at 12:25:13 from 71.216.109.214

Dinosaur AND wolves? Together? Well, good luck with that.

You know what else is an American icon? Women's heavyweight mudwrestling. But that doesn't mean I should look at pictures of it at work!

The documentary was good, as usual. I love how everyone denies cheating :)

Very nice tempo test. Glad to see all the pistons are firing so soon after the marathon. Looking forward to the string of faster shorter races now.

We need to get back on the track for a repeat of OktoberFAST 5K or maybe even a BooFAST 10K?

From Jake K on Wed, Oct 10, 2012 at 13:50:29 from 155.100.226.191

It'll be interesting to see if I can actually get them firing in time for Big Sur. Right now the body doesn't really love the idea of 5-flat pace, let alone trying to do that for 13 straight miles. But, I think I have a decent plan to get me to that point in 5-6 weeks. My hammy is feeling fine - but I haven't really given it a "real" test yet and I'm hesitant to do that for another week or two.

The only weekend there isn't something else going on is Nov 3/4... a 10K then would actually be perfect timing for me. We'll see if we can drum up some interest...

From Adam RW on Wed, Oct 10, 2012 at 14:58:29 from 67.182.250.241

I'm currently open either of those days in November and would be interested in the 10K. Are you thinking the AM or PM?

From Adam RW on Wed, Oct 10, 2012 at 14:59:02 from 67.182.250.241

Maybe move this conversation to today's entry so people are more likely to see it?

From Jake K on Wed, Oct 10, 2012 at 15:04:15 from 155.100.226.191

I honestly have no idea at this point... the 3rd is Andrea's bday, so it will depend on what we're doing for her sweet 16, or however old she is :-)

From Adam RW on Wed, Oct 10, 2012 at 15:17:59 from 67.182.250.241

She is sweet but I'd go with 18 to keep it legal...

Hopefully she is running again and could do a 5K but that might be rushing it.

No worries. I am fine playing it by ear.
