AM - 12 miles. LT Reps: 8 x 1000m (200m) in 3:14.8 avg. HHS track.

I figured 3:15/km was probably a reasonable starting point and kept the reps very tight around that mark. During the rest of July and August I'll extend the duration of these repetitions and hopefully drop the pace at the same time.

First actual workout attempt since May 31st, and first completed workout since a week before that. Wow.

PM - 4 miles.

Really good start, Jake. I have a similar go-to workout that I do either when I'm beat up, or getting back in shape (works out to ~3 min on / 1 min off usually). I bet Chicago will work out - looking forward to watching your progress.

It's funny how perspective shifts - the last time I did 1Ks, I averaged 3:04, thought that was a colossal failure, and cancelled my plane tickets to upcoming races immediately after jogging home. Today, I felt pretty good about the session. I know I have got a ways to go, but I really believe that if I don't rush it, I can make a make a big jump in the next 10-12 weeks.

i probably would have seen you but i decided to go to east because the HHS football team won't stop throwing eggs at me.

nice job with the workout, and welcome back to workout land. i just exited this morning. from now until des news, i'll be at the old spaghetti factory.

The football players didn't start trickling in until ~645 today. Just two crossfitters in lane 8, but I was able to take them out (inspired by Jack Bauer's rampage in the season finale of 24).

I like to get the mushroom/mizithra manager's special. It feels like the manager is making a meal just for me. Welcome back Jake.

I think at least from my past experience anyway, that taking a sabbatical from high intensity/mileage running could set you up for a nice peak late this fall. Mainly because the plumbing is in place so to speak.. As long as the combined mileage and workload doesn't overwhelm. I can't help but wonder if that could happen for you. Are you feeling fresh before and even possibly after this workout?

If I'm running, it's a workout.

From Jake K on Wed, Jul 16, 2014 at 12:23:30 from 159.212.71.200

Yeah Steve - it definitely pushes back the timeline a bit, but if I'm smart about the things I do (and I have no choice but to be smart - I can't just will myself back into shape), I'll be able to run very well this fall. I just can't fall into the trap of trying to press hard and run very well *right now*.

And yeah, the workout wasn't very hard. I could have run faster but just stuck to my target. No need to get ahead of myself on day one :-)

Well, I actually meant if the peak could happen for you. Not the other way around. ie-the workload. Sorry, punctuation error.. I need to learn how to write.

Excited to see how these next 10-12 weeks build up! :-)

Nice that you're hitting some real workouts again. I think you're timing things well to hit it big this fall.
