AM - 7.3 miles up to work.

PM - 7.5 miles. Ran down to the track and met Andrea, Allie, and (our newest blog member) Rob. Workout was 8 x 200m w/ 200m jog recovery. Rob and I took turns leading - we averaged 30.8 seconds - the fastest 200s I've run in quite some time! It felt good to get the legs turning over quicker. When the girls finished, we jogged about 10 minutes to cool down.

Excellent post from the Track & Field Superfan about Cam Levins, high mileage, frequent racing, and achieving the "tireless state."

I looked for Orange on Sunnyside this morning but couldn't see you.

Straight to work today, so I only made a brief appearance on sunnyside while crossing foothill

Enjoyed the read thanks for sharing. I have so many friends right now that are into the "run less run faster" and "cross-fit endurance training" crap and it makes me frustrated. I'm sorry but I just don't think running 10-20 miles a week is going to get you in shape for a marathon. I hate that there is so much invalid information straying new runners in the wrong direction.

The thing that people need to realize about Cam is that he is doing lots of really high quality workouts. His coach won't let him talk about the specifics in interviews, but they have both basically said that in addition to pushing up the mileage, he's bumped up the intensity of the harder session a lot as well. For most mortals that would be insanely risky, but its working for him.

You're right though, Rachelle, the "x-fit marathon plan" type training is bogus. You gotta put in the miles! And you gotta run FAST sometimes too. Again - balance, middle ground... the things no one writes about :-)

Levins must seriously be a total freak of nature and it would be awesome to see the specifics of his training. It is obvious that he is working his please do not swear off. So so cool and motivational to see the improvement! And yes I definitely agree with balance!

645 would probably be the best when dealing with Utah county traffic. I was planning on driving down to your place then heading down.

Yeah that sounds good to me - meeting @ 645. Wanna just meet at the Shopko near Sugar House park? That way you don't have to drive down to our neighborhood. We can just get on the interstate easily from there.

Good read. The x-fit society bugs the crap out of me. To run well you have to run often. There is no magical shoe or diet... just running miles and miles for years and years...

Cmon Jake, I'm an American - I want an instantaneous, magic solution!

From Redd on Thu, May 03, 2012 at 17:53:00 from 67.182.221.157

Sounds good, I'll meet you there.

Jake and Rachelle, it's funny that you mention the crossfit, run less, run faster topic. Just the other day my wife was telling me that I should do that plan. I told her that it might work for some people, but I realized a couple of years ago that I need to run a lot of miles, all the time, to do well. In 2009 I ran the Grand Slam and got better with each marathon, and it's because I ran a lot if miles.

I cannot even imagine doing this... good for you guys :)
