Had to get out early before church today to get in the long run. It was a nice morning around 60 with light wind. I felt ok starting out today but started real slow first couple of miles. I finally woke up and settled into a good pace. I seemed to feel better as I went along so just gradually picked it up as I went. I have been trying to run all my long runs faster toward the end. I finished up feeling pretty good but for some reason my legs didn't feel the best today. This is my last long run before the marathon so now I start the taper. Doing my long run on Sunday will also goof up my weekly mileage. This makes last week real low and it will make this week high even though I am starting to taper. Anyway, glad to get this one in.

Jim,

Looks almost identical to my last long run...glad you were able to keep a strong, steady pace. Keep up the good work!

Yes, you have been inspiring me to push it a little bit harder and longer. Hopefully, we will get good results in the marathon.

Congrats on getting the last long run in the bank. Enjoy your taper!

Have you determined a pace yet? Was the Yasso 800's helpful? If so, is it 10 x 800? and how much rest in between. I still am very uncertain what my mp should be. I've been thinking 7:15-20, but I'm just not that sure.

Rockness, I have had a hard time deciding on pace as well. Got some good advice from Jeff to set 3 goals. One if you have a perfect day, next one what you think you can do and last one what you would be happy with if you are off. Based on that I am starting to think 3:10 for great day, 3:15 what I think I can run and 3:20 if I am off.

Based on what I have seen in your blog you seem to be a little ahead of me. I have noticed you have been able to do your long runs at a faster pace then I am and you have nailed some mile repeat workouts.

I have been doing the Yasso 800's some which would suggest under 3:10 for me but I can handle the speed workouts much easier than the long stuff so not sure that is a good predictor. When I do the 800's I jog a lap in between which workouts out to be around 2:15 recovery.

You will do great in the marathon.

Thanks for your insight. Speed seems to come a lot easier for me as well. I've focussed much more on my long runs ever since my "crash and burn" marathon debut. I think I'll make my pace decision after this weekend's 1/2 marathon. Also, I may ask for advice on the "Discussion Forum" and listen to some collective insight. I think we're both right there for a potential BQ...good luck on the taper!
