Another unsuccessful run.  I tried to see how my leg was doing and it seemed to be going ok.  I just had some dull pain for a little over 2 miles but then all the sudden it just tighter up and starting hurt to the point where I couldn't take a step.  I stopped and massaged it for a few minutes and it felt better.  I tried to run again but the pain shot down my leg.  After stretching and massaging it some more I was able to walk back home but every time I tried to run on it it hurt really bad.  I am going to have to go to the sports doc on this one.  I am as discouraged as I have ever been with my running.  I feel I have lost so much and can't seem to get back to running without some other injury popping up. Not sure what my future is as a runner at this point.  It is very frustrating!!

Sorry to hear about your injury. That stinks.

I'm really sorry to hear about the injury situation. I've been there myself a few times and it doesn't seem to ever get any easier to deal with. Best of luck getting to the bottom of things and starting on the way to full recovery.

Jim,

Sorry to hear this. Injuries are so frustrating- hang in there!

Yes, hang in there and don't be in a hurry to get back where you were. When you are fully healed it will come back easier than you think.

Sorry to hear about your leg. I hope you find out what it is and that it is not to severe. Hang in there, I know it is frustrating but remember all the other blessings you have in your life and focus on those for a while.

Thanks for all the comments. I have pulled something in my upper calf that causes bad pain when running. I have been able to bike and do the elliptical but it always flares up when running. I tried it again today and made it about a mile. I am going to have to go back and get another opinion since this is not working. It is on the back outside right below my knee. Any ideas?

Hey Jim, sorry to hear you are out with an injury right now. I hope you've found some improvement since then. I thought I was going to be out forever but got some huge help from physical therapy and eventually got back running again.

Good luck and hope you can get back out there soon!

Jim, do you think it might be your popliteus muscle? Something you can do to loosen it up, if it's the case, is to do "windshield wipers" with your feet. Sitting in a chair, use your heels as the pivot points about 8" apart. That will loosen it and strengthen it.
