This week was a little tough motivation wise and a good share of the time I just did not feel like running at all. The cold didn't help at all. BUT, I got out and battled through it and got in a solid run every single day, and today I was rewarded with the best run I've had in months. Felt wonderful. My legs felt smooth and it just felt effortless. I could have run forever today. Great week all things considered. Best in months. Broke 50 for the week.

Easy run through campus, up to 12th East to 14th North, down to Main, 4th North, up Old Main Hill, and back home. Felt pretty good. Just took it easy after yesterday's long run. Legs didn't feel tired at all. Good sign.

easy ten today. Went pretty slow. Legs felt tired. I think I pushed a little harder than I intended yesterday. But no harm done. I'm just trying to log some good mileage and get my base back to where it should be before I worry too much about planning out days for Big Workouts and stuff.

Nice evening run to Hyde Park via 16th East and back via 8th East. Enjoying this "warmer" weather. I've discovered one of my favorite things is watching snow melt. I just feel like bursting into an evil, maniacal chortle ever time I see that cursed stuff running down the road in a stream of runoff. Anyway, nice run. Cache Valley sure looked beautiful today. Great week, breaking my goal of 55 miles pretty easy. Feels really good to be getting in some good mileage again. It's been quite awhile.

Super tired today and felt like crap most of the day. I blame it on eating a huge amount of junk food at a party last night. Bleh. Got the run done though, but that's about it. Also, can someone pass the memo on to Mizuno that the big gap in the middle of the heel is horrible for running in snow? I always wondered what it would be like to wear high heels. Now I know...

Easy 12 mile run. Hyde Park loop variation. I am getting sick of running on the roads and using the same routes. I can't wait until the snow melts so I can use the trails again. Decent run though. Still really tired today for some reason...like sleepy tired. I've been getting plenty of sleep, but I just want to sleep more and nothing else. I'm sure it will pass.

Scott emailed me last night about a "Freeze Your Buns" 5K here in Logan, and it was only $10 so I thought what the heck. Got up early (for a Saturday) at 7 ate a banana and got all my warm clothes together and stuff. Weather applet on my desktop said it was 8 degrees. I guess it just means that Scott and I were more manly today than Jon, Cody, and Paul. ;) haha. Scott graciously gave me a lift down to the start at Logan High, since my car won't start. Got signed up and got my free beanie (I figure a race, beanie, and food was a bargain). Jogged the course with Scott. Nice and flat except for a small uphill near the end of the loop. According to Scott's GPS the course was pretty accurate. Not very much competition, which is understandable given the cold and the low key nature of the race. Start was very abrupt. Took off and was in the lead right from "Go!" No one really challenged me in this race, so I just kind of set a good pace but tried not to kill myself, as Scott and I were planning another 8 miles directly after the race. Legs were pretty tired as expected due to the mileage this week, but it wasn't too bad. Very cold air. Kind of hurt my lungs, but not as much as I thought it would. The cold was probably worth a good 30 seconds at least on my time though, plus I have done zero speed training in recent history. Finished about a minute ahead of second place--a high schooler who just barely outkicked Scott. FRB went 1 and 3. Scott beat his longtime nemesis as well, so it was a good race for him I think. After the race we went inside and stretched out a bit and I got some Gatorade and a half slice of bread. Didn't really stick around for the awards, since it was just ribbons. Took off on a run from the school down to Planet Walk and out by ICON and 10th West. Doubled back for 7.9 miles for the run. 14.1 for the day. Race time was okay. Satisfactory for that temperature, the fact that I haven't done speed work in forever, the short notice and consequently worn out legs (although I probably wouldn't have rested for it anyway at this point). Always nice to get the win though.

Easy run, but legs feel trashed still. Not so much the muscles, but joints and tendons all feel very fatigued. Feet, ankles, and knees especially. This started to build last week but it seems that yesterday's rest did nothing. Last week I was debating on taking this week easy and it looks like that's what I will do. Today was a test run, and my legs didn't pass. Probably shoot for around 45 miles this week and then hit it hard again the first week in March. This is okay though, because I've got until around June before I want to run another marathon, so I'm in no rush considering what I've been able to get done to date. Better to remain injury free and take a 20 mile cut for one week than to get hurt and be able to do little to nothing for 2 weeks or a month. I'm already at 60 miles per week, so I'm not complaining.

Skipped yesterday because of homework, and was barely even able to find time to get out today. Even that took a stroke of good luck. But anyway, I did get out and after a mile or so I just thought "Hey, why don't I push the pace a little bit, since I can't go long anyway." So I pushed it to about CV pace for about 3.5 miles. Felt nice. Cooled back down the last mile and called it a day.
