Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

4:45am...6 miles with Moxie along Sunnyside.  Warmish still but tired and leg a bit tweaked.  Ran into Curt, Alana and Gama and ran about 1/2 mile with Curt.  Broke out a new pair of shoes for the rotation.  (Ride 3 2015)

5 miles at lunch on a nice day.  Pathways were mostly dry except in the park where they were sheets of ice.  (Ride 3 2013)

I think that my hamstring issue is proximal/high hamstring tendinopathy, not just a hamstring strain.  Might be looking at some time off from running to get over this.  Time to spin with Kami in the mornings and lift more?

What's the recovery look like for proximal/high hamstring tendinopathy? The usual rest, etc.?

That's basically what I've been dealing with since Chicago, Jeff. A true "pain in the butt" at times.

Don't tell anyone this, but I'm dealing with it by doing YOGA /stretching every night w/ Andrea... and it is really, really helping. I can't do speedwork (well I suppose I could try but it doesn't seem worth the risk) in the colder weather, but that's alright by me this time of year.

Crossfit?

But I think that may have jumped the shark.

Jason, rest is one part of the recommended approach to reduce the stresses on the tendons. Other recommendations are strengthening exercises (non-direct to start), pelvic alignment and core strengthening, stretching has been mixed in literature. Some suggestion other forms of aerobic exercise though some say you can still run but slow and on flat. Looking at going to a PT this week to discuss more.

Seems like it's been troubling you a while, at least since your last race? Sounds like it's time to try something new, since its not resolving on its own... I tried a little bit of everything on my hamstring. I think a combination of active release therapy (ART), stretching, strengthening, and generally taking it easy with running helped me recover. There's not a lot of studies to support the effectiveness of ART yet (and its $$$), but I found it effective on hamstring and in releasing hip tightness that caused pelvic tilt, which caused he hamstring issue in the first place. Also did a ton of foam rolling in hip area and of TFL, and stretching hip (various lunges, various twisting lunges, warriors, etc.). Strengthening of gluteus medius has helped too. Hope you find your path soon!

Thanks for the suggestions Kristen. I know you have been battling issues as well, appreciate the support and ideas. Going to change things up a bit and do some recover exercises for a while to try to get this over with.
