Short-Term Running Goals:

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

4:30am...5 miles easy with Erik T.  Nice to catch up.  (Ride Orange)

Results of Justin's MRI later today.  Justin has a labral tear in his right hip likely caused by his fall at the USNA this summer.  His knee has no structure issues but a bad case of tendonitis.  Now we need to work with the docs on the path forward...knee most likely rest after and an investigative injection; hip look at PRP or maybe surgery, need to get some opinions (vary widely on the internet).  He is out of racing for at least 3 weeks for a miraculous return or rest of season.

Too busy today for a second run.

Wishing Justin the best.

Hi Jeff, I wanted to reach out after reading this about Justin. I have studied up on labral tears in the hip because I was diagnosed with one in 2013. If you do decide to see a doctor for his hip, Dr. Aoki at U of U orthopedics is the guy. I saw 3 Doctors and he was by far the most experienced and very non-aggressive about the procedure. I know that Lyndsi Davis also has some experience with him because he did her sons surgery. Hope this helps and you're doing well. Take care!

Thanks Shelley. Dr. Aoki is the person our PA mentioned. Need to see if surgery or something else (PRP) is the right path forward. Frustrated and pissed off.

Shelley, did you have surgery to get it repaired? Did you think about PRP or stem cell injections first?

From shellberns on Sun, Sep 17, 2017 at 07:58:09 from 108.26.198.31

I did not end up having the surgery. There are a lot of things I considered but in the end, I did a lot of PT and focused strengthening that I still do religously. I did not do PRP or Stem Cell injections. Not because I didn't want to, I just kept doing what started working. My hip is a lot better now but I still have pain, weakness and muscle imbalances that I anticipate having the rest of my life. I'm not a fast or competitive runner and I know this condition has definitely held me back but I guess I'm ok with it. I assumed at some point that I would end up having the repair done but right now, it's still manageable. I'm sorry that Justin (you and Kami, too) are dealing with this. I have talked with many people who have successfully rehabbed this injury and also people who have made 100% recovery from surgery. It's a complicated issue and there isn't one solution for everyone, unfortunately.
