Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Got my 18 miler in today in the early afternoon under cloudy skies and 26 degrees.  I did 3 loops around the greenbelt.  First loop of 6.5M in about a 6:55 avg. pace.  The next 5.5M I ran with my friend Dan Shirley at closer to a 7:45 pace.  I then finished off the next 6M in about a 7:15 pace.  Good run, but glad that I am done with it.  At the end, I was pretty cold...I had to have someone else open the door to my truck because I could turn the key my hands were numb!

total time: 2:12:00  (Saucony Trigon - 78 mile)

Good run today in the cold. We need to get you some thicker gloves for Christmas!

Oh Jeff! I'm glad your okay. This happened to me last year where I couldn't feel my thumb for two hours, and to this day my thumb gets colder than any other fingers first. I almost went to the hospital. I did what Jon mentioned got better gloves. Very nice run to finish an excellent training week.

Nice work on the long run, and congrats on your 5k the weekend before. That was a good time for this time of year, especially at 5000' altitude.

Thanks guys. Actually I used my new Brooks running mittens and they weren't really that cold...just two hours in the cold with little movement made it hard to grab a small object. The mittens worked really well (better than the double gloves I had been using).

Way to go, coach! I was sledding with my kids during your run. I was actually pulling them back up the hill with the four wheeler. I learned that riding an ATV is easy than running, I might switch. Do you think I'll burn enough calories that way?

From jtshad on Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 11:08:21

Thanks! Were you on the Freeman Park hill...are you the one that almost ran me over? ;-) The caloric intake may be similar if you run out of gas and have to push the ATV!

From jfogg on Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 11:11:25

No, we were out at Ucon. Maybe if I chased you on the ATV, we could improve your pace. Not sure I could keep up...I only have a Honda 500.
