Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

No morning run.  My foot is still pretty tender especially pushing off on it.  The middle toe is the sore one and I can definitely tell there is swelling.  I am thinking it might be a stress fracture or hopefully just Metatarsalgia.  Neeed to rest it now I think so I can be ready for the Jan. 13 marathon.  Also looks like ibuprofen and icing should help.

Probably take today off, but may do a very easy and short run at lunch on the trails in the desert...we'll see.

Take the day off. I can't imagine how a short, easy run would be more beneficial than getting some rest. If you must do something, go hit the eliptical or bike where you don't have to push off or land on that foot. A full day of rest would be good for you.

That is what I am leaning towards as well...should not have even brought my stuff today, but it is too strong a habit. I have told Dan Shirley not to let me run. I also don't know now if I will do the race this weekend or not. Resting/recovery now is better as I got the ok from my wife to book the travel and race registration for the PF Chang Marathon...yeah!

I agree that you need at least one good day of rest. Take the day off!

Take the day off, and I would definitely not run on Saturday, because your an awesome competitor and you will push hard in the race. You don't want to have a worse condition. I would take two days off and see how you feel Friday. Your Marathon in January is more important than a 5k fun run.

Thanks for the comments on my blog. I hope your foot heals up quickly. You might consider a tarsal (sometimes called a metatarsal) pad that you can put in your shoe under your toe. That helps distribute the weight a little better. A couple of days off never hurts if it can save a month down the road.
