Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Easy morning 10K run.  Felt ok until 5.5M then developed a killer stitch which I had until end of the run.

Humid 5M run at lunch.  Even comfortably easier pace (6:45).  Everytime I tried to push harder, a stitch started to come on again.  Seemed to help when I ensure I ran tall and leaned forward a bit more.

How many early morning runs do you do? I mainly do them as easy miles- no more than 6 miles, usually. It is very hard to get going fast before 5 am. I usually find that 8 minute pace is normal, 7:30 is very fast, and 9 minute is not uncommon.

From jtshad on Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 16:09:10

Usually between 4-7 miles. My pace lately has been averaging about a 7:15ish (start slow at 7:45ish and work up to about a 6:50-7:00 pace, if lucky). I have not been focusing on the pace, rather just ensuring I get the mileage. I use my lunch run as my MP or, if lucky, tempo run.

I don't think I could do a 6:50 mile at 4:30 in the morning if my life depended on it.

So should I sick one of the dogs that seem to like to chase James around the town on you? Maybe that will get your mojo goin' you slacker!

From Jon on Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 16:27:54

I don't think anyone who can do a 4 am run is a slacker. Stupid, maybe, not a slacker.

No, leave the dogs with James- he seems to enjoy them. This morning was actually the best I had ever felt on a morning run, surprising since I only had 5 hours sleep and ran 35 miles in 2 days.

Are you around in Aug? I will be there 2 weekends and need to get some long runs in.

From jtshad on Wed, Jul 25, 2007 at 16:40:11

"Slacker" was said as tongue in cheek.

August weekends may be full for me. Aug. 4 either still out of town camping or running a half mary here in IF or John Colter Runs in Driggs (here is info on IF run if you are interested):

On Saturday, August 4th, we will host the 2nd Annual Rock Roll and Run Half Marathon. This race will begin and end at Old Butte Park (the west side Soccer Complex). In an effort to beat the heat the ½ marathon will begin at 7:00. The 10K and 5K races will still begin at 8:00. Contact Mike or Lynn at 521-2243.

I am out of town on Aug.11 and Aug. 24-26.

So, most times around this crazy schedule might work. Call me when you get to town.

I know slacker was sarcastic- as was my stupid comment. Well, maybe not the stupid one.

I'll let you know when the dates are set.
