"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Easy 8 / 9:01 avg. From work. Mostly cloudy, 30F wind. Little sleep the last several nights and a sour stomach from Thanksgiving celebration #1 yesterday made for a FUN run.

Leaning towards no running today. We'll see. Yeah the weather's nasty; 30+ mph winds, freezing temps etc. I'm hoping for the lull that usually comes right before a snowfall but the weather folks are saying "blizzard", so I don't think there will be a break. If I feel up to it I may go for 3 or 4 miles on the treadmill tonight.

Just to clarify my blog headline "The Treadmill Avoidance Project (TAP)". My intention is to make any TM running I do this winter the exception rather than the rule as in previous winters. The last two winters (Nov. through March), I've averaged around 35 treadmill runs. So this winter I'm allowing myself 12 TM runs, 1/3rd of what I usually do. I have nothing against the treadmill really. I enjoy running on the TM at times, because I inevitably end up doing speedwork to stave off the boredom, so it's always rewarding. But last winter I found myself choosing the TM over outdoors several times when the weather was only slightly inclement, and I feel the need to toughen up a bit. There are a lot of  runners that run outside, everyday, no matter what, no excuses. I know myself well enough to know that's not possible for me, but I can certainly try harder. Hopefully by allowing myself a few TM runs, I will end up running on those days when I use it, rather than no running at all.

I hope you enjoyed this long winded, tedious explanation of TAP.
