"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

10 miles / 1:23:28 / 8:20 avg. Late run (2:30 PM) on the legacy parkway trail. Sunny, 47F. Shorts, glove liners, and for the first time in several weeks just a single long sleeve top. Suffered through some gastrointestinal acrobatics throughout the run. Actually had to "stop and drop" in mile 9. Very rare for me. It might have been the Great Harvest ham and cheese sandwich I had for lunch. I snarfed it down pretty quickly and only about a half hour before the run.

Mile splits, 8:55, 8:23, 8:32, 8:31, 8:27, 7:51, 8:04, 8:13, 8:29, 8:00.

Rest tomorrow.

You truly have a stomach of iron if you can even eat anything that close to a 10 miler, let alone run at that pace!

I usually eat a banana and/or a doughnut before a run, or even a burrito, without any trouble. I think there were some red peppers in the sandwich that may have expedited things a bit.

Nice mile, super nice pace, and love the terminology!!!

I want a doughnut, that sounds GOOD.

I have had some stomach problems this week too. I wasn't going to complain, but since you mentioned it I might as well go ahead and whine. It's so annoying!

I thought I was the only one that said snarfed! LOL

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Feb 05, 2010 at 21:51:55 from 24.8.167.243

I guess it was either stop and drop or snarf and barf.

Congratulations on your warm weather. I'm still in two shirts on every run, but I suppose if I ran at midday I could be more like you.
