"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

10.2 miles. Bluff trail. Sunny, 77F. Going very easy on  pace the last two days while the outside of my left foot sorts out whatever issue it's currently grappling with.

I met my goal of running every day in September. This was day 31 because I also ran the last day of August.

Are you going to be a streaker? (The running kind.)

From nevels on Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 15:12:07 from 155.74.2.253

i think you should do october the same way, except make it an epic ramp (i've considered doing this myself just to see how long i could keep it up):

oct 1: 1 mile

oct 2: 2 miles

oct 3: 3 miles

.

.

.

oct 31: well, you know where i'm going with it...

From JD on Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 15:31:09 from 70.96.78.157

Sno - Lol! I may have to get a tent.

Nevels - I like that idea. It would get pretty rough once your combined three day totals were running into the 75-80 mile range. Good luck with that!

From Lysa on Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 15:48:50 from 174.52.25.64

Congratulations JD! You have done it! And you have done it with strength too. I think its awesome. And crazy, but mostly awesome.

From auntieem on Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 16:06:53 from 98.247.178.183

I love Nevel's idea too! 317 miles for a month; just a little bit more and we could be there. Interestingly, 31 miles is a 50K. There you go JD. It could be a progression 50K. I am already messing October up, because I have to run 26.2 on the 10th.

From JD on Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 16:11:51 from 70.96.78.157

Thanks Lysa. Go run.

Auntieem - Yeah, October's out for me too. 50k on the 23rd. I was thinking I'd give it a shot in the year 2012.

From allie on Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 16:13:49 from 174.19.51.35

that is a brilliant idea, nevels. it might be fun to celebrate day 31 by becoming a streaker (the indecent kind)

From nevels on Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 16:14:25 from 155.74.2.253

i can't do it for october, either (ultra on the 16th), but looking forward a few months, april or may might be good candidates...

hhhhhmmmmm......

(darn y'all - you've got me seriously considering it, now... dang....)

From nevels on Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 16:20:50 from 155.74.2.253

...on the other hand 31 miles of streaking could get interesting...

From Lysa on Thu, Sep 30, 2010 at 16:52:38 from 174.52.25.64

I'll take the pictures, let me know the final streaking days when and where. And JD, I did. Not much, but I did.

From Adam RW on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 08:46:20 from 155.101.152.123

JD, Hope the foot found what it was looking for on the easy miles today. Streaking is fun but be careful. My sophomore year in college I ran into a group of recruits, I guess they saw that college can really be like the movies. As far as the other type of streaking goes, in 2000 I decided I wanted to run everyday for the millennium (at least the first year of it). At about day 300 my foot started bugging me. I pushed it to 335 days in a row of 3 or more miles and then was kaput for about 2 months...

From april27 on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 09:05:18 from 165.138.243.1

Great job? Are you taking today off?

From JD on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 11:33:44 from 70.96.78.157

Thanks you guys. The foot feels much better today. I seem to heal up quick as long as I don't just let it fester. Always best to keep working it and get the blood flowing to the problem area, without over doing it of course. I am taking the day off as I hope to run over-long either Sat. or Sunday.
