"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Easy 8 / 8:33 avg. From work, around 10:00AM. Sunny and 70 degrees. Beautiful running weather. I've been putting a lot of focus into my form the last several weeks and I felt like today's run was the first real pay off for the work. Just felt relaxed and easy while holding good running form.

Mile splits: 9:07, 8:40, 8:14, 8:41, 8:32, 8:34, 8:18, 8:19.

very nice. What about your form are you working on?

From JD on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 15:00:05 from 70.96.78.157

Thanks Lysa. Mostly working on relaxing my shoulders and swinging my arms. Also on foot strike; keeping my feet under and behind me when striding. The minimal shoes and barefoot runs help a lot with that. Everything just seems to be sharpening up. I imagine form is something to always be improved and refined.

So how are you feeling. Sore?

From Lysa on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 15:12:29 from 174.52.25.64

I need to work on my slouch. I read that I need to try and imagine two ropes being tied to my shoulders pulling me upwards. Like puppet strings. It helps when I think about it. I just have such a hard time remembering to think about it. Even within 5 minutes of thinking about it.

I feel good. Sat. night and Sunday I was sore. But today, I feel pretty good

Glad to hear your form is getting better. I recently started thinking about mine more. It seems like Lysa I forget about it after about 10 minutes of running or when I'm tired.

From JD on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 19:49:56 from 32.176.124.228

Yeah, I'm faced with the same challenge. It really requires focus until it becomes more of a habit. And the more tired you are, the harder it becomes to stay focused, but it's worth it. There really does appear to be a lot of "mind" involved with running.

From april27 on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 20:49:03 from 99.188.251.180

I agree--last summer was my best 1/2 race...I felt great..and all through training I focused on form--even during the race. I have not beeen able to replicate it and I'm convince it is b/c I haven't been paying attention to my form!

From Snoqualmie on Tue, Sep 21, 2010 at 09:40:57 from 24.18.192.33

I agree about the form. It makes a big difference.

Your "WET"s have been most admirable! Enviable too.

From auntieem on Tue, Sep 21, 2010 at 10:39:57 from 71.197.249.174

I find the really long track workouts an ideal place to work on form. I think that it is gradually making a difference in my running, particularly in my comfort level with the long runs.
