"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

so i've had a "toothache" for the last couple of weeks that's been getting worse and last night it got really bad. this morning at 8:30 AM i found myself in a dental chair. i had some dental work done last summer and was hopeful that would be the end oif it for a while. anyway, another tooth dieing - lots of pain, nerve damage. he did a partial root canal for now, and i guess in a few months i'll go in for the full monty. in a weird way, i like these procedures.

i still intend to keep the streak alive, and will get out tonight for a "gentle" mile or two, then lay low with short easy miles the rest of the week.

3 miles at MFT with dog. warm (36F) and rain. very easy pace.

WT 47.6 miles

I hope that tooth is feeling better soon.

thanks Rattletrap - tooth pain sort of takes the fun out of the run.

Again??? Oh man, that stinks. Sorry about the pain. And that is weird that you like those procedures. I've never had one before. knock on wood.

From JD on Wed, Jan 18, 2012 at 16:30:35 from 71.32.200.226

yes again! this is the third major dental procedure in as many years. i guess i'm making up for having virtually no dental drama the first 45 years of my life. dang!

i think i like the procedures because i associate them with eliminating the pain.

i'm sorry. i understand what you mean though, when you say that in a weird way you like these procedures. i recently had a root canal and it was totally miserable yet entirely carefree. i have never heard such sounds, nor seen more exotic tools than i did that day. painless, refreshing torture.

rest up and enjoy your gentle miles this evening.

From JD on Wed, Jan 18, 2012 at 17:37:44 from 71.32.200.226

thanks Allie. painless, refreshing torture - lol!!

That's why women like child birth. They associate it with "get this thing out of me NOW!!"

From Stacie on Wed, Jan 18, 2012 at 19:18:13 from 67.166.127.0

Whoa I'm shocked by the zero. will have to check back later.

I didn't mind my root canal. It was like 2 hrs long though. Is that normal? So true about painless, refreshing torture. I enjoyed laying (lying?)back in a chair for hours and not having to take care of anyone.

Sorry about the tooth trouble! I hate those days! I hope it is feeling better so you were able to get out again today. It was a warm one!

From Lysa on Thu, Jan 19, 2012 at 11:54:00 from 67.166.122.134

So you ran 3 on lortab? That's pretty impressive. Sounds like it was nice too with the rain, easy pace, and the dogs.

From Stacie on Thu, Jan 19, 2012 at 12:37:44 from 67.166.127.0

phew

From JD on Thu, Jan 19, 2012 at 15:39:54 from 70.96.78.149

thanks Steam and Stacie -

Lysa - the lortab came after the run/before bed.
