"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

10 miles / easy. MFT/LPT - mostly cloudy, temps mid 80's. The cloud cover makes such a huge difference. I was feeling great until about mile 7. I ran the last 2.25 miles barefoot on the grass...which seems a little redundant since the Hattori's are basically like running barefoot but I had developed a hot spot on the inside arch of my right foot, so I shed the shoes and finished the run on the grass. The hot spot can easily be managed and will adapt to the shoe (I'm running sock-less in these shoes).

Awesome! Are Hattori's those shoes that you look like feet socks?

From auntieem on Mon, Aug 01, 2011 at 12:24:35 from 67.182.149.104

Do you wear socks with those things? I don't, and they are really comfortable.

From JD on Mon, Aug 01, 2011 at 12:28:32 from 70.96.78.149

No socks. They're very comfortable shoes. The zero drop is really helping my form.

never mind. I used the google

The Google abides.

Never heard of them. My feet hurt so bad right now, I need to try something new!!!

Great job on the run, we were all happy for the nice cloud cover yesterday. I am done with summer already. BUT I do not want to go back to work, so I will tolerate it.

What is a zero drop? I am too lazy to google. Maybe it is helping my form too

From JD on Tue, Aug 02, 2011 at 17:19:19 from 70.96.78.149

Thanks Allie! You're kind of my shoe guinea pig on this one. I'll be watching to see how many miles you get out of them.

Thanks Kelli - sorry about your foot. Was it hurting before the marathon? Love summer but miss the carefree days of winter runs with no heat! (As only a runner could).

Auntieem - "zero drop" refers to the fact that the shoe is flat. Most running shoes have more cushion in the heel than in the forefoot. Running in a flat shoe makes for a more natural foot strike - I guess. I've been working down to this kind of shoe for a couple of years now and it feels great!

Yeah, I stepped on a big rock during a tempo run and I thought it was just bruised. But now I am getting a bit worried. BUMMER, I will ignore it until I can't anymore (I never learn).
