AM/Lunch - Flourtown tempo loop - 16. 1 miles total w/ 4 x 2 miles @ HMP w/ ~3:00-3:30 min. recovery jogs. Weather was a little breezy, sunny, lower humidity and temps 65-70.

4.1 up, 9 workout total, 3 down

Set 1: 12:15.6 (6:08, 6:08)

Set 2: 12:15.1 (6:08, 6:07)

Set 3: 12:15.3 (6:08, 6:07)

Set 4: 12:16.4 (6:13, 6:04)

Good, honest effort today. A successful workout for sure. Not too fast so I was out of range and dying, but plenty fast that when I started to dig into 5:30-5:40 pace for the last quarter mile with a slight hill, I was hurting (~end of race effort for roughly a minute and a half). I've run this workout as fast as 5:54 average (last winter when it was 19 degrees) but I ran exactly that for the race. A more reasonable effort and I tend to beat the workout. Last year before Philly I ran about 1.5 seconds faster, but it was one a flat .5 mile loop. This loop is slightly more challenging.

I usually call this one the Hanson Brothers Workout, but of course they didn't invent it but I got the idea a few years ago here.

PM: Wyndmoor - 4 miles, averaged 8:03.

Megan and I are headed to have Thai. I imagine I will be very hungry by time we walk to the top of the hill.

You should feel good about that. Very consistent. Ready for a good one next weekend!

Thanks, Jake. I do feel good about it. I've done my fair share of complaining recently and ~90% of the problem has been due to forced effort. Kept the effort right today.

Coming around nicely with 10 weeks to go for the marathon. Due for a week of cutback this week. 85-90 per week feels right to me, but I also don't want to end fall like I did last year . . .

Far too lazy to click all the links, but if you're only 1.5 sec off on tougher course, shortly before a PR half, that's pretty exciting. Definitely opportunity for another PR next weekend!

I figured no one would needed to click on all those links, but it puts them in one place for future reference. Pretty much exactly what I ran before Philly RnR last year and I think I've been running higher mileage. I've also had a longer period of consistent running given that my marathon this year was 4 weeks earlier than the previous year.

Not sure if it will be a PR day, but I am not going to rule it out. I ran perhaps my best race ever last year. Nothing like expecting to break 1:20 and running 1:17:50!

Wow - Ridiculously consistent pacing! :)

Great workout, Jason. Good luck next week.

I had to put in the decimal place because I couldn't quite believe it. I was monitoring my pace as I usually do but if you asked me in mile 3 or 4 what mile 2 was I couldn't have told you other than "a bit under 6:10."

Now that I have christened my tempo loop, I think my running is pretty well situated here in Philadelphia.
