Sharpening Workout of 5 x 1000+ with 2:00 recovery jogs

Warmed up a little over 3 and went straight into the workout. There was a bit of construction so I played nice and jumped on the sidewalk in places. Goal was to get down to low 17-minute 5k pace or under. Couldn't quite get there today but I got a little bit of faster work in. Probably ran too hard given the effort output and could have lengthened the rests just to get the pace in. Plan is to taper a bit. Yep, tapering for a 5k.

Averaged 5:42 pace for the 1000s. Jogs were 9-9:30

Double "Nice!" on this one and the big workout on Sunday.

I almost never say this, but wear your Garmin and don't go out at 5:15 pace! You've had a lot of really good workouts... the only "bombs" have been the ones where you started way too fast. But those served a purpose as well. Go get a 5K PR!

Thanks, coach :-)

I don't expect too much competition based on previous years, but you never know on race day. Even though it is a certified course (the first certified 5k I've ever run), I am going to strap on the old GPS, mostly so 1) I don't go out too fast 2) so I can turn it more into a time trial if I have no one to chase (or fend off) and race the clock.

I think that's a great idea. If there aren't people to race... race the watch. It's close enough (assuming you aren't running in a forest or downtown)
