AM: 13 miles, averaged 7:05. 10 Day Out Workout, 3.5 up/3.3 down. Few strides cooling down.

Well, 11 days technically but Wednesday is my "midweek workout get nothing else done in the morning day." Like last fall and spring 2013 I did a 10k wave tempo alternating ks @ HMP/MP. It's a difficult workout at this point in a buildup. It was around 60 and humid for November 11 with a little wind. Felt okay to maybe "just kind meh" but this is very typical. A day off yesterday didn't help but have me some rest so it helped overall. Stride felt clunky and had no turnover.

Goal was roughly 3:35 per k (5:46 pace) and recover at 3:55 per k (6:18 pace). Usually I will not be able to get down to my recent HMP and my MP will be too fast and as HMP gets slower MP gets faster. Not today, but I was on the track too. HMP intervals were consistent but MP was all over the place! My body was getting confused between a straight tempo and kilometer repeats. I'd start too fast or too slow then try to get on pace.

Good enough. Have a cider and look over the whole training block... its great! :-)

When I did this before Chicago last year I could only manage a 7 second difference between the 1K segment paces.

I've looked over it a few times. It's been fantastic. Got the PRs I missed out on last fall due to outside factors and got in my long runs. I think I did 7 or 8 20+ and maybe only 5 last fall.

Usually I am ready to get the race over with but I have enjoyed my training a lot this fall. Lots of mile this year!

I think it was a matter of concentration today. Usually I cannot hold the same pace for the half marathon portions and marathon pace gets faster. Feel asleep on those. That's terrible pacing on the track. Right at goal pace though!

Given that you are a 2:20 guy 7 seconds makes sense. I can run about 25 seconds between marathon pace and half marathon pace. I think you are closer 15 seconds maybe.

It definitely does get awkward switching paces when it is 1k segments vs. miles or even longer.

Looks like a great workout from here.

Drew: Similar to the Hadley 5 mile 800/800 you and your team does but 10k pace would be way too fast for this one and at this stage. I couldn't even tell you what 10k pace was currently!

I might try the 800/800 workout this spring, but I'll likely start with maybe 4 miles. I like the sounds of it better than doing 800s at 10k pace off of very short rest but I could see the benefits there too.
