AM: 13 miles. 6 x 1600 on the track with 400 recoveries

This was a good workout for me. The weather was favorable and below 70 to start (not sure when the last run below even 75 was). I warmed up 3.75 feeling a bit sluggish but kind of knowing that I just needed some time to loosen up. I've been getting up much earlier than I did all summer so sometimes I am still half asleep on my warm up.

My goal was to run about 5:50-5:40 or roughly 10k pace, which I figured would feel much earier than 10k effort at this point. I decided to do these on the track and try to mirror the paces I did for my sharpening workout about 4 weeks ago but with a slower cutdown. Worked beautifully. I felt quite relaxed and my breathing was good. Legs weren't snappy, but that's what the first just-barely-sub-100-mile week will do to you the week before. I might have been too conservative at the start and I finish well, running hard but not trying to kill it. I took 400 recovies to make things simple but I tried to keep the recovery pace somewhat honest in ~2:10 average when I would typically do 1:45-2:00.

5:51.8, 5:50.6, 5:48.4, 5:46.1, 5:41.5, 5:38.5 (5:48 converted mile pace average)

Cooled down to 13.

PM: 4 miles easy. Beautiful evening.

In the last year or so I have discovered Greek yogurt. Over the last two months I discover coffee Greek yougurt. Sometimes for dessert I have a scoop of peanut butter then I eat yougurt, coffee or otherwise. Tonight I thought, "Viola!" I put the peanut butter in the coffee yogurt and it is amazing. #yourewelcome

Solid effort Jason. Nice weather is a good motivator too.

Great workout, Jason. I really like 6x1 miles @ 10k pace. I feel like that workout fits anywhere - from a 5k block to marathon training. It's completely solid, but doesn't leave you sore for days. Perfect execution on your part too.

1. Great workout

2. I've come around on greek yogurt... really like using it in recipes... I use it when I make my kangaroo/kale meatballs for an extra dose of protein.

I think we all use Greek yogurt in our kangaroo/kale meatballs.

Drew: I generally run the 6 x 1 mile around half marathon or 15k pace but in the middle of the week it usually feels about like 15k to maybe 12k pace (I also usually take no more than 2 minutes of jogging recovery on the roads). I was pretty relaxed on the first few. Not easy but just in cruise mode. It's one of my favorite workouts (next to the 8 mile MP tempo), which I typically do in marathon training. I can never get through 6 repeats in the summer because I don't readjust my expectations accordingly.

Jake: I didn't realize those were kangaroo balls (as I first read over your comment quickly) in the photo that you had posted before Chicago (?) going through TSA. I thought I was the only weirdo who packed special meals. My first thought was "Aww . . . my favorite animal!" Then I remembered that I get ticked a people who campaign against countries that eat horse meat with the tune "They aren't our food; they are our companions!" which is fine if you don't eat meat, but if you do, you have nothing to say. I know some people who are very attached to their cows.

The Sushi Nazi (a self-moniker) in Lafayette, Indiana make what he calls a Reggae Roll, which is a sushi roll with deep fried alligator and two different sauces. It's pretty amazing. It's pretty much the only thing I am looking forward to when I finally defend my dissertation this fall.
