AM: 7 x 1 Mile @ LT: 5:55, 6:03, 6:00, 5:58, 5:58, 5:57, 5:55 (5:58 average). 2 Minute recovery jogs (8:15-9:30 pace). Warmed up 4 with a half mile at MP, a few quick stretches, and two pace strides. Had to navigate some work trucks, but we reached a silent understanding I think. I thought I would be much faster, closer to my calculated LT pace of 5:50, but I guess I am entering the territory where you can't just knock out mile repeats 10 seconds below HMP. I just couldn't get my legs to turn over. My breathing was quite good. No extension in my hips. I feel pretty good about the workout. 3.5 down. A little over 16 total. Going to hit the 3000 mile mark this afternoon.

Ran in my new flats. I really needed new shoes as you can tell :) They were my present to myself for my A++ goal at Philly and I had some credit at the local running store and some extra coin from an extra copy editing job I picked up. Some nice improvement over the MV2, but not quite as firm. The heel counter is much more flexible and the inside is even better sockless (as I prefer). The sole on the midfoot has more surface area, which makes it a better marathon shoe. Finally, my size 12 was 6.5 oz, and my former flats were 7.2 oz. Pretty decent when you can knock out 16 miles in a brand new, out of the box, pair of shoes sockless and not get any hot spots.

PM: Rest Haven Cemetery - 4.5 miles, averaged 8:27. "Jason what was the first thing you did when you hit the 3000-mile mark? Well, thought about how much a hate the people in this town. Then I had a banana and a very rare post-run beer."

Really good workout - pace, volume.. had it all.

It does get tougher and tougher to run faster than HM pace as you get faster... especially when you are doing 6 or more reps. This is good stamina work!

Congrats on 3000! I was wondering if you'd catch that or not. :)

Thanks, Jake. I am getting closer to the outside of that magic LT=half marathon pace (as Hadley defines it 60-75 minutes) The last time I did 7 x 1 mile was last September and I did them @ 6:35ish pace, 1:30 rest, half dead recoveries. The last time I did a set of mile repeats was August 14 and I think I was a bit slower but with 5 repeats and SLOW recovery jogs (~10:30). Felt even better when I looked over my log.

Matt: Oh, I barely noticed :-). I'm up almost 600 from last year, which I am pleased about. My goal for the year was 3000. Not sure how many years I can continue to climb, but I will sure try. Even with a busy schedule 10-12 a day is very doable. If I were running on a treadmill I could do that in 75+ minutes a day. Fewer days off really helps, more doubles (4-5 rather than 3-4). I haven't run more than 17 miles in any one run in probably 5 months, but days like today running 20+ AM/PM are helpful. I expected to be about 17 lbs by now, but all in time :)

Awesome, buddy - looking strong. See you at IMM :)

Thanks, Joe. I will see you there, I'm sure. I was surprised how close the 3:05 pace group was to the elite "barrier" (smallish rope), which didn't leave much room for faster halfers and marathoners. I'm sure you won't be far away. It's getting to be a sizable race. Over 10,000 this year?!

very nice workout.

congrats on the 3000+!

Thanks, Allie. I wouldn't know that people ran that much without the blog, or that some people (he shall remain nameless) run 5-6 thousand or some other people (she shall remain nameless) run 4 peak marathons per year.

For the record, I have cut back my mileage this year.

From Jason D on Sat, Oct 12, 2013 at 19:36:40 from 24.1.80.94

Yes, I see. I was going to make a joke that I was referring to Dave Holt but he was "only" at the 4500 mark.

Looks like the highs have been 120-140. I recall Boston 2012 and the 150-160 mile weeks and many "man-beast" doubles of 13/13 (or more).
