North side - 8 miles, unfiltered beer pace (8:16). Did some strides and five hill blasts (weak)

Walked 3 miles in the cold rain last night to watch the Big Ten 10k. Got there for the men's bell lap. Apparently they started at 9 not 9:30. I did get to see the women's and a freshman from Michigan absolutely dominanted. 32:47? I think. She strung it out from the first lap, lapped the field going into the last 1600 meters and looked strong the whole way. She finished looking fresher than I sometimes do after an 8-mile AT tempo.

So far knocking down my drinking days from 7 to 2 has done NOTHING for my scale weight, but the Dodge Fat Test (simple pinch of the skin below the navel) tells me I have lost quite a few fat percentage points. My new theory is that my overindulgence in peanut butter has been fueling a fat demon that lives inside my hamstring and calls out split times and that is where the weight is being stored.

That had to be an awesome race to wash. I like to watch guys events, but there's just something about watching a female field crush any dream of a race time I ever had.

Looks like you're getting rid of a lot of calories. It's amazing how easy it is to consume them with any beer/wine, etc.. I'm working on getting lighter, too. Finally started posting my weight again yesterday. This is the part they don't tell you about when you start running.

I'll likely spend my life chasing that kind of time and never get there. She just dominated.

Yes. My lesson of the day: cutting out calories doesn't necessarily lead to weight loss (and since December I have been counting and cutting). But I feel better, so at least there's that. I am hoping it is muscle loss because I haven't but need to get back to core work and strength stuff.

I have peaked at Matt Fitzgerald's stuff a little bit and I think he has some good advice.

That's a dominating performance from Erin Finn. She broke the Big 10 record by almost 30 seconds. In the Big 12 Champs last night, the guy who won the 10K lapped the field after only NINE laps!

It was awesome to see even if it was in the mid-40s with rain. She kept giving her coach the thumbs up to signal that she was fine. I kept looking for sign of "oh, crap!" but she was upright at the end.

You could see the pace in her legs. Much better hip extension, high knees, etc. There were a few shufflers in there!

Just checked on the Big 12. Nobody under 30 except for the winner under 29. I like running because there's no mercy rule. It's gentlemenly but nothing says you can't give someone a good trouncing. I am rarely on the giving end of it, but I've done it :-)
