North side - 7 miles easy, averaged 8:29.

All body parts seemed to have made it through the toughest part of the build up. A little bit of hip tightness today (it's not asymmetrical, which is good), no doubt from trying to push in the final mile or so yesterday with pretty bad form downhill

I checked out the course on YouTube last night, and I have some Garmin data from a friend. It looks there are some drops of close to 200 feet in a mile, which is pretty serious compared to what I am used to. However, I built in a mile into my long runs that has about 115 feet of drop, which should prepare me okay.

You mean you didn't watch all 17 minutes of a guy driving down the road :) ? Maine has some rough ones, but it also has very nice interstates, er, highways? Much better than the Midwest.

I just hope the downhills don't beat me up. The last few miles are only slightly downhill, which should help (even though by that point I won't notice the advantage). I am very excited!

I checked out the elevation profile. Seems like 11/12, and ~16 are the sections that are steeper. The key on downhill is to relax and lean forward just a bit. Try to avoid slapping your feet on the ground too hard (you'll hear it if you do!). Stay light, and use those miles to generate some momentum (especially the first steep downhill, as it comes after a long uphill stretch).

Thanks for taking the time to look that over, Jake. The Garmin data I have (which is the least accurate about the device but can be helpful) is -189 for mile 12 and I think that's close to what the video suggested. Miles 9 and 10 are climbs for what I am used to (+151 and +117). 16= -153 and 17= -117. Those two should be fine since I have topography similar to that here and I have done my workouts with one good downhill mile. Mile 12 is going to be a bit of a zip line, but I will try to relax as you say. I'm not a great downhill runner (who is?!) but I have a high cadence and I try to keep my stride short (I just need to relax in the race). One of the reasons I could tell I needed to end my workout yesterday was the slapping of my feet. I'm not ultralight, but I have been known to sneak up on people on the streets :) (it would be a lot softer if I were in the 150 weight range, but someday). Again, thanks.
