Studying to be a foot and ankle doctor, huh... Maybe you can fix my ankles when I turn them on some of these nasty trails (which I have become surprisingly adept at doing)

Solid run, and welcome...

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 26, 2009 at 15:58:30 from 71.36.65.79

A Garmin would be a nice birthday present,eh? Lately I was focusing on one proprioceptive cue to help me with my form. Navel to spine - concentrate on pulling belly button inward towards spine. This helps activate the deep ab muscles which serve as stabilizers of the pelvis and lower spine while running. The next proprioceptive cues I'll work on include the Feeling Symmetry, Running on Water and Pulling the Road which is especially good for hills. I imagine the road or hill is a giant non-motorized treadmill...imagine myself pulling the "treadmill belt" backward while a pulley is pulling me up the hill.

Took a break from studying this afternoon. Went on a long leisurely run with a couple of classmates around Grays Lake/Des Moines metro. I forgot how nice it is to have the company of others on runs.  Tomorrow I will be attending a biomechanics and sports medicine lecture series.  One of the topics will be common running injuries - should be interesting.

Learn alot! I'm interested to hear all about it. Nice long run with friends. Weather must be nice, eh?

From eric on Thu, Apr 02, 2009 at 11:46:59 from 64.17.194.203

The workshop was really well done. We had 3 doctors from different states that have had extensive experience working with runners. They mostly discussed biomechanics and the construct of orthotics, overuse injuries, and other sports medicine topics.

You could make that entry even shorter: TM run. LOL!!!

Hey, I LOVE Marianne's blog and the pics from your Chicago trip. I need to learn how to set up a family blog like that. Great way to keep everyone connected.

Eric,

Nice to see you on the blog! I loved the link you posted on your mom's blog of Kara Goucher. She is amazing, I hope she wins Boston. What would it be like to run a 20 miler at a 7 min pace?

From Smooth on Sat, Apr 04, 2009 at 20:51:24 from 71.36.85.29

HAPPY BIRTHDAY one day later!!! Hope you had a GREAT birthday!!! Dad, Steven and David are at Priesthood. We're having the Ongs over for two Conference sessions tomorrow.

From Smooth on Sat, Apr 04, 2009 at 20:53:35 from 71.36.85.29

OH, I almost forgot. Seidi had her baby this morning in Gunnison. Dwight's her doctor with Danny attending.

From eric on Sun, Apr 05, 2009 at 15:22:08 from 75.167.73.86

Hi Bec,

Kara Goucher is an amazing runner. Someday you'll be able to run a marathon at 7 min pace too. You're not too far off really. Great run last weekend at the Riverton half!

From eric on Sun, Apr 05, 2009 at 15:23:29 from 75.167.73.86

Nice medium long run! Is the trail paved? What half-mary is he running? Glad you had perfect weather.

From eric on Mon, Apr 06, 2009 at 22:20:25 from 75.167.83.236

Thanks for the Birthday cards and gift! We got them in the mail today. You and Dad are too generous.

The trail is a nicely paved trail that follows the Des Moines River - hidden from all the traffic. Most of the time, you can hardly tell that you're in the city. The half-marathon is on Apr. 25th called Drake Relays on the Roads HM.

Nice 10K. OK, I took my blood sugar 2 hours after breakfast this morning just to stop my friend from driving 30 min to take it. Anyway it was 74. A bit low for not having done any exercise. I will take it first thing in the morning (like a fasting blood sugar) and see what it is. My weight has dropped to 98 which is not too low; but I don't want it to drop any more. I seem to loose weight during taper. The fruity smell in urine went away today; so that was good. Diabetics or starvation can have fruity urine or breathe.

yeah it was pretty dark, but I was able to find some well-lit streets here and there. I'm sorry you guys have snow. We've had two days in a row of 60 degree weather.

I wish I could go to Boston too! Maybe next year if schedule allows.

Total Distance

ran 3 miles and biked 10.  I've been sick with a sore throat and a cough for about a week...feeling so tired all the time and haven't been able to run for all that time. I had  a few hours after taking a test today and decided to try exercising as treatment, hoping that somehow I could "sweat" out the virus.  I actually felt pretty good throughout and afterward.  My cough didn't get any worse, which I thought maybe it would.  At least I felt like I had a good reason to feel so tired.

So I'm thinking maybe Kansas City in Oct. It's the only race I could find in the Midwest that's not on a Sunday:

http://www.waddellandreedkcmarathon.org/

One of my classmates who I run with is also thinking about running this. He ran in college and based off his speed and prior experience, he could potentially win this marathon.

Will input official race time, place, etc. once it gets posted on the race's website.  According to my watch, I completed the distance in 1:24:58.  Nice day for a run and to be part of the 6500 that entered the race. Good cloud cover during the first half and then the sun came out as well as the heat. Pretty sure I ran the second 10K a bit slower than the first 10K.   I was glad that I survived the distance in one piece.    I'm never really ever prepared to run these type of races.  Will pick a race to run in the fall, most likely Living History Farms Cross-country race in Nov.
