AM - hilly 8 mile w/u, 4xquarter mile hills w/ equal recovery, c/d for 12.

was gonna do more, but i work later today and didn't get much sleep last night so didn't do too much. spent most of the workout thinking of a cool name for the hill; i settled on "stairway to heaven". good start to the decade. averaged 84 but i think they’re a little longer than my watch says since jogging back down i hit .25 miles about 30m before the start. doesn’t really matter since effort and good form is what this workout is for. that hill is killer

PM - 8 after work.

Happy New Year Eugene!

Way to run strong on the hill workout today.

thanks eva. i’m not sure if workouts are gonna be harder since i’m not used to hard running or i’m just not used to the pain that comes with hard running, but either way i definitely couldn’t have done 10 like you.

Eugene..I wouldn't have been able to do 10 right out of the blue..I have gradually worked up to it. I started out with a couple, then added one hill each week until I was finally able to do 10. After I reached 10, I have been trying to do them a little faster. Our team did them every Tuesday and Friday, so I think I will continue to try and do them twice a week. Hills seem to be good for building leg strength. I plan on doing 10 hills again tomorrow.

yeah, sprints and hills are great for form. i’m planning on the same thing, hopefully adding another 4 next week and 4 more the week after that, then staying at 12, hopefully dropping the pace as i get into shape. there’s not much danger to just doing hills and i’m sure you’re probably still figuring out where you want to go with running in the future, but if you incorporate another workout into your training i’d recommend tempo runs since those 2 workouts would really cover most of your bases(sprints and intervals are more for sharpening up for races and race pace, hills and tempos are better for general fitness).
