Short-Term Running Goals:

-Find some good local races to run that will motivate me to stay in shape.

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list.

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I live in the Twin Cities with my family and am an Epidemiology PhD Student. Running is the only hobby I have time for :)

6:58 pace, quiet day on Como classic. It was like 70 degrees but felt so nice compared to previous days.

Smoke is supposed to come in again so I thought we might as well get out while we can. I did the same route as last week through Stone Arch bridge to west river north, but this time the whole family came.

Forecast is calling for smoke for the next several days, so I was grateful that this morning the air was still clean enough to do a workout. I ran a route similar to something I have already done this year. I started at the intersection of Buford and Gortner, then ran through the fairgrounds (using them while I can!) and popped out on Como, running to the intersection with Cleveland. It was maybe 5 seconds short of 2 miles I think. I ran 10:21, 10:10, and 9:52, with <2:30 rest in between. Reps 1 and 3 were more downhill. I think today was evidence of the importance of warming up. You shouldn't drop 30 seconds off a 2 mile rep. Clearly, I wasn't ready to go yet that first rep. It's fine because I was trying to get more workout volume, but for a race you wouldn't want to do that.

Smoke day 3. I feel better about doing this short long run after having done a couple of longer ones that past couple weeks. I ran for a total of 99 minutes, probably averaging 6 minute pace according to the treadmill for ~90 minutes of that. But I just don't feel the same way I do after an LR or even an MLR, so I'm skeptical of assuming higher mileage. Looking forward to running outside again for a lot of reasons.
