Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

Hard to say exact mileage. I lucked out and saw some old teammates and was able to do a workout with them. Just a little thing, a fartlek with equal recovery and 3, 2x2, 3x1:30, and 4x1 minute hard, but the faster pace was good for me, and so much easier to workout with teammates. We went on transit.

Yes, you are reading this right- I just did my second workout in one week! It's like I'm a college runner again. The thing is, the summer racing season is coming up and I'd like to actually be in shape for it. I have a 10K in Minneapolis planned as well as a half marathon in Duluth. I'd like to add in some other events as well. In order to do well at those, I need to get some legit training in. I used to consider my hard long runs sufficient, but especially during the winter they often ended up at 6 flat pace, or even slower. That does not cut it for training for a 10K. So today I did 4 by mile with 4 min rest on a windy day on Como ave (from Raymond ave to almost Snelling). 4:53, 4:53, 4:51, 4:52. It's a start.

7 flat pace. I was ready to do east river flats, but it wasn't ready for me. I fell down on the ice for my third fall of the year. Wasn't too bad.

I tried a new route today. I continued past Reservoir Woods and onto the Roseville "chain of parks". It was not a bad run. I felt still depleted, presumably because of the workouts this week but I'm not sure. 6:05 pace, including 5:55s on the way back. I was pushing it harder that direction. There is still a lot of snow on the ground, and when it melt onto a path and then freezes, it means there was more ice than I expected. I'm not sure if the ice will end because the snow will melt, or because it gets consistently above a point where it ever freezes and just remains as puddles. It might be the latter. This route, particularly the way I did it going via Hoyt avenue, is one of the hilliest routes I can think of to do.
