Feeling kinda blah, today. Legs need some adjusting to regular training, again.

I listened to an interview with Deena Kastor on Runner Academy this evening while doing dishes. She is my all-time female running hero. I loved hearing about her progress, her struggles, and her running mentality. She finds so much joy in running. A practical piece of advice is to be observe the triangle of rest/recovery.

Proper rest between intervals to ensure a productive workout.

Proper rest between hard sessions. Making easy days easy.

Proper sleep. (She sleeps 11 hours a night. I got five last night.)

I warmed up 15 minutes and then ran a fartlek ladder.

1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2, and 5 x 1 minute on/off to finish. 1, 1, 2,2,3,2,2,1 minute recoveries. My legs felt a little springier this morning. 6:56 average. 1 mile cooldown.

Trying to add a little more every day.

Podcast run. The first four miles I listened to a podcast about Louisa May Alcott. I learned that the March sisters in Little Women were based on her and her three sisters. Then, I listened to The Moth story hour. Bad mistake. The stories all had to do with people dealing with terminal illnesses. In the first story a man plans an "end of life " celebration with his 86 year old mother. In the second story, a man with a tumor in his femur puts together a "Council of Dads" to be there for his twin daughters if he dies. In the final story, a New York City cop says goodbye to his father (also a NYC cop) on the day he is scheduled to take his exam to become a Lieutenant. Way too much emotion for a run. I stopd on the corner at mile eight, just sobbing. I might need to make a return to FallOut Boy.

7:29 average. I needed gloves. My hands were cold.

I felt a little rough getting started this morning.  But, it was a beautiful morning for a run.  I saw sheep and bunnies today.  Who knew Taylorsville was so rural?  I listened to a TED talk about the makings of a champion.  I found it inspiring.  Two quotes I liked:

"As I was finishing this epic adventure, I suddenly realized that every day is epic."  (Diana Nyad, who swam from Cuba to Florida after the age of 60)

"Obstacles can be reasons to stop, or they can be reasons to become more creative." (A quote given by Amy Purdy,  a paralympic snowboarder who lost her legs in a bout of bacterial meningitis.

After tomorrow's long run, another successful week!

SOOO hot and muggy this morning. Out and back river trail. I ran in a sports bra after mile five. The killer geese and homeless guys got to enjoy my bloated white belly! 6:55 average. I listened to an interview with Camille Heron. I met her at USATF convention. She's one of the most down to earth runners I know.

Off to soccer games!
