Well, after 5 days off, I went for a run today.  I only did 4.5 miles this afternoon out along the 600 North trail.  I went at about the worst time of day and died in the heat.  I spent the rest of the day sheet rocking a garage, so now I'm pretty sore.  My cough didn't bother me as bad as it was a few days ago, so hopefully I'm getting better.

Didn't get out this morning, I was camping with the scouts and got back into town just in time to leave for work. Tonight, I ran 2.5 over to Hurricane High School then did 8 x 400m with 200 m rest/recovery. The repeats felt ok, but not great, 75, 74, then the remaining six were all 76. My hip was hurting a little during the workout and is still pretty sore tonight. I was having some problems with it last week as well as a bad cough. The cough seems to be better, but the hip issue still remains. I'm getting a little worried with the half marathon coming up this weekend. Did a real easy 2.5 miles home.

Nice easy run with the club, the pace was smooth and enjoyable, I could actually visit a little with the guys. We ran 6.6 miles and my hip felt pretty good. My only complaint was my dinner which hadn't fully settled, but besides that everything else went pretty good.

Well my race was just "average" I was pretty worried going into the race, since I've been experiencing some sickness the last few weeks and my training has really been down. I was also concerned a little about my hip, but it actually felt pretty good during the race, so that is good. In all the other races I've ran this year my times have been faster than a year ago, so I was hoping for the same today. Last year I ran 1:18:25 and today I just barely ran faster than last year 1:18:08, so I guess I can be happy about that, but I still think if I would have had a few better weeks of training leading up to this race I could have ran about a minute or two faster, anyway I finished about where my training level is at, so I just need to accept that and get to working harder. I'm already thinking about doing the Provo Half Marathon and or Hobblecreek in August. Actually, the next few weeks things should slow down for me some and I should be able to pick up the training.

Race report

Easy 1 mile warm-up with the St. George boys

1- 5:58- The starter got happy and fired the gun about 5 times, which made a lot of people stop at the beginning thinking it was a restart. I was one who stopped and then found myself, behind quite a few slower people. I was still around 20th place at the mile marker.

2-6:05 (12:04) Good group running with Steve Hooper and Ryan

3-5:15 (17:20) This is a really fast downhill here

4-5:28 (22:48) Steve surges ahead and runs a good race. I stick with Ryan for awhile

5-5:47 (28:35) Still feeling really good, nice and relaxed, except I can feel a blister coming on my right heel, same place I had a huge one last summer after a 20 mile downhill run.

6-5:46 (34:22) Good pace and feeling pretty good. Ryan has dropped off some and Cheston has caught up to me and passed me. Steve and Jose Martinez have about 45 seconds on me.

7-5:59 (40:21)

8-6:15 (46:37) I think around here there was a slight hill coming into Tropic

9-6:21 (52:58) Starting to hurt a little and slow down

10-6:07 (59:05) Trying to pick up the pace

11-6:09 (1:05:14) The blister on my right heel is really starting to bother me now and is kind of effecting my stride.

12-6:20 (1:11:35) Feeling the effects of my lack of training.

13-6:07 (1:17:41) Pretty pleased with the effort on the last mile

.1-:27 Finish time 1:18:08 (5:57 min per mile)

After the race it was fun to talk to the other guys in the club and from the fastrunningblog.

There were some really great performances today. However, I just felt like mine was ok. I wasn't really disappointed, but at the same time not all that excited.
