This ranks right up there with one of the worst races I've ever had.  It takes the cake as the worst marathon I've ever had.  First 16 miles were pretty good, then the last 10 I just fell apart. Legs cramped up and I got some good blisters.  My PF issues flared up and so I was just trying to be as cautious as I could, which meant a lot of walking.  I really didn't want to tear one of those.

Ok, sorry to start so negative, it was just not a good day for me.  In fact running has been a struggle for me this entire year.  It seems I've just been busy with so many other things.  However, I keep reminding myself of an often heard quote "Runs end..but Running Never Does" so I'm sure I"ll keep coming back.  As for marathons though I think I'm ready to give them a break.  I've never really liked the distance to begin with and have really had a struggle with training for them and racing in them the last few years.

Ok enough of the bad attitude..I'll be back in a bit to post the splits later.  I need to go eat I still haven't been able to keep anything down, been sick in bed all afternoon.  I've lost 9 pounds since when I got up this morning.

Alright back to finish my post.  Feeling better now was able to eat a meal and then I went to General Priesthood Session.  What a great meeting, just when I was feeling down and not having a very good day, things changed listening to Church Leaders and all their great wisdom and counsel.

Ok race splits

Felt good at the start, fun seeing lots of friends.  Highlight was getting to talk to Double D from 1210 Sports Radio.  I wasn't interviewed or anything like that, but just fun to meet somebody in person for the first time, that you listen to on a daily basis on the radio, while crusing in the Driver's Ed car.

Half 1:25:10 Right where I wanted to be, unfortuately this was way to fast for the shape I'm in.

14-7:14 Legs starting to cramp

15-6:38 Not feeling good at all

16-7:05 I think this is where I stopped and got the legs massaged a bit. Also stopped and talked to Logan at the first aid station

17-7:55 Blisters coming on pretty good

18-9:31 Ok offically in pain mode, ready to drop out

19-9:01 Bummer

20-7:18 where did that better mile come from?

21-8:41

22-10:15 took a longer time at the aid station

23-12:09 took the shoes off and walked for awhile

Garmin time 1:18:59 (7:35 average, ouch I run 20 mile training runs faster than this)

So there you go.  Not a very good day, I was definitely humbled today by the marathon.  However, I still consider myself very blessed to have the health and the desire to be able to participate in these types of events.  Also very blessed to have agood friends and family that are always there to support and lift me up.

Finally, just have to mention to my St. George boys.  Basketball season starts for me Monday.  I think that has been my problem this year, not enough Basketball miles.

Figured you weren't where you wanted to be when I saw you at the church. I ended up not running due to the PF. Although it was a tough and really depressing decision, it was best for me. We should start some kind of PF/Where's my motivation support group. Hopefully, you can figure things out and where you want to go from here. You're a great runner. Don't forget it.

If it's any consolation...It was a bad day for me too! In fact; it seems a general consensus that a lot of people were unhappy with the race today. It had me really wondering why the heck I do this. I know I'll bounce back, and I'm sure you will to.

Overall it was a pretty good year to not be in shape and expecting big results. So your not out much. Get yourself in shape over the next year so I can see you bust the PR that lies inside.

Good job today:) It was brutal.

It was good to see you for a bit. I am sorry that it didn't turn out the way you wanted ... but dang ... you are awesome!

Get better. You looked good while I was chasing after you. I loved your "run ends but not running" perspective.

No words of wisdom for you. Congrats on sticking it out today though.

Sorry you had a rough race. But hey, at least you put yourself out there and ran the race. I hope you can find the time and motivation to get back into training soon.

Tough race. Nice job finishing. Take a break, recoup.

From MarcieJ on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 01:30:24 from 208.117.117.22

Hey Im so sorry you didnt't feel great today. What a bummer day for so many of us. I feel so much like you about needing a break. And as great as it is to have a great race and feel good, there is so much more to life than a PR. Good job anyways friend!

From Holt on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 02:44:26 from 75.169.57.238

Glad you made it through it buddy. I had the same thoughts on conference too... then I came home and started thinking about running again.

From Mike Warren on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 06:53:07 from 74.211.9.222

Budda, your still the man! A 1:25 half with your training is nuts. You keep the Bull and I shooting for the dream. We want to get better just so we can run with you. Thanks for all your help after the race. Also, thanks a million for sprinting up to me before Winchester to encourage me. I am lucky to have a friend like you.

Glad you had the priesthood session to lift your spirits! It was a tough day for everyone, so chin up! Right? You ARE truly blessed.

Sorry about the disappointing race. You finished and that has to count for something! Personally I am a huge fan of halfs. Marathons kick the trash out of me.

From TylerS on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 00:45:08 from 63.248.32.71

I cant' wait to come down and eat at In and Out with you! I should have called you to watch the priesthood session! Don't worry about this race! You had a tough training year and believe me there are people that would kill for a 3:19! Get more basketball miles this year I will see you at Painters in January!

From JulieC on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 19:28:34 from 70.56.111.1

so the whole go out fast as far as you can philosophy told to me and my faster gal friends is not a good idea? wowser first half!! It still gave you a decent time!!! considering all the walking and the shoes being off :D

From Bill on Tue, Oct 05, 2010 at 12:55:56 from 168.179.180.160

Budda, you had an awesome half. But the heat took its toll. I like the idea of running halfs and 10 k races. they tend to be better on the body! There is no way that I could get into your head. But i always look to you when i think about improvement! and what i can do to be faster. Great year. Lets go to Boston you me and Bigfoot!

From Predog on Wed, Oct 06, 2010 at 22:06:01 from 24.10.140.186

Sorry about the rough race. You'll bounce back. Sounds like you just need some recovery for the PF and then a few months of good training (which is tough with a family and job and stuff--I'm just some punk college kid with all the time in the world) You should try some trail races if you want a break from marathons. You could come run Logan Peak with Cody and I in June--we need a third guy to complete our SGRC lead pack now that Jon has bailed on us. I bet you'd like it.
