Made it out to basketball this morning, so that was good to at least get out of bed. I shouldn't be as busy after school today, so I'm planning on running between 4 to 6 miles.

Ran from the La Verkin Overlook, down the twist into La Verkin past the city park and then home 5.5 easy 7:25 avg.  I did this route because La Verkin City is wanting to host a road race Easter Weekend.  The plan they want is to do a 10K (out 3.1 miles and back) starting at the city park running up the "twist" state road heading toward Zion.  However, I think a 5K or a 4 mile race might be more appealing.  Especially if you dropped people off up at the top and just let them run downhill, that would have the potential of being a very fast 5K.  However, I actually like the idea of running a 4 mile race, which would actually have people starting at the very top of the La Verkin Overlook.  In my opinion it would be kind of a cool place to hang out and stretch before the race, being able to look over much of valley below.  Anyway, if anybody reading this blog has any ideas please let me know.

Also today was the last run in my orange Asics Nimbus, they now have over 400 miles and have been a lot better shoe than I thought they were going to be.  At first, I hated them (they seemed too heavy), but over time I actually found them to be pretty comfortable and a good training shoe.

Dustin, I actually like the idea of a 10k that starts at the park and goes up the "twist" 3.1 miles, then back to the park. That way, the times are more honest and the race is unique. Throughout the state, Utah is notorious for having ridiculously fast courses because they start up some canyon and then shoot you out at the bottom i.e. Utah Summer Games. What's the point in running a race like that and having some "fake" pr that one will never reach again? Those are my thoughts anyway...

I like the idea of just coming down the hill very fast, but I do agree that it probably would not be an "honest" course. I do not know how the response would be if people knew that they had to run up the hill, my guess would be not great. It is a great view from up there and you would have a lot more interest from the less serious runners. Four mile races are rare so I am not sure if being a completely honest course is that important.

I noticed that you have signed up for the Dam to Dam 5 miler - I saw that on the St. George rec page when I registered for the Spectrum 10K. Could you tell me a little bit about the course?

Jody, I'll just jump in 'cause I saw your ?. Dam to Dam is a pretty good race, but all on dirt road - some firm, some gravely, and most loose. Thus the times are a bit slow. They take you in a van around to the opposite side of Sand Hollow Res. and you run around the lake (I think it is pretty scenic and fun). Really not too much of an elevation change, but it is a few feet up because you finish near the top of the boat ramps.

I really do not like up and back courses! The Hill thing does not bother me! if they are trying to attract the family have both a 5 k and 10 k option. Remember i must have my trophy!
