5 easy miles this morning, legs still a little sore from Saturday. The downhill pounded me a little more than I thought it would. Got out tonight and did an easy 7.5 miles from the house down 300 West to Farmer's then up past McKell's, over to Howard's, then down to Pah Tempe, up the hill (quite a bit of shade down there now, so that will be nice when I start doing some hill workouts here shortly) then over to the Hurricane City Park, quick stop for water then up to the middle school and home. I did do a short jog up another hill right by the bridge going over the gorge. I measured out 400 meters and thought about some possibilities for doing some repeats on the hill. Maybe some downhill running. Any ideas about doing some speed on a downhill from anybody out there? I know Sasha does some, and I just think much of St. George is downhill and I still don't feel like I go as fast as I could on the downhill, still feel like I need to train a little better for that?

Hey Dustin, Once again contrats on the race and your placement. It's good to see those times dropping. We just need to continue getting in the miles we need and I think we'll have a great summer season. Keep it up!

Way to start off your week. Good job. Enjoy the last week of school and then your home free.

Way to get out and get some miles!

Dustin, regarding downhill speedwork, I do a lot of tempo runs on my local Top of Utah course, which is downhill. I also try to do my share of downhill races to prepare my quads for TOU or St. George. In particular, the Des News 10K and the Alta Peruvian Downhill 8K are great training races for St. George. Probably Hobble Creek Half too, but I've personally not run it.

But I think longer speed sessions on downhills would be better than shorter intervals, as the key is to train your quads to run downhill well while already fatigued. Just my take on it.

You are to kind to still consider me one of yours. I am excited for school to get out so I can really get rocking and rolling with training for the summer.
