Finally ran a race.  It's been a while.  I was trying to decide between the 10k and the 5k on the morning of.  Seeing as how I have run very little and have done almost no speed work for the past year, I decided to stick to the ole 3.1.  I was very glad I did.

There was a running club there from Mexico that was all decked out their race gear.  It looked like they were going to be pretty quick.  Going out I had a hard time deciding whether to stick with them.  I was afraid I might not be able to hold the pace.  Fortunately they settled into a pace that I felt I could hold.  I was about 10 meters back from a pack of three of them for about a half mile.  There was another guy who was another 20 meters ahead of them and increasing the gap.

We had a pretty good headwind so as we approached a hill I figured it would be in my best interests to cozy up behind the group.  I fell in with them and got pretty comfortable actually.  A couple of times they surged a bit trying to pull away but I wasn't hurting too much so I just kept with them.  One dude fell off and then another.  At about 2 miles I finally pulled ahead of the last guy.  He was right with me until about the last half mile.  I kept my speed up just enough to make a gap.  I figured at that point he was hurting just as much as I was and I highly doubted he had any will-power left to close the gap.  I picked up my pace for the last bit and crossed the finish line a good 20 meters ahead of him.

I didn't win the race but it was probably the most fun I have had racing here in Del Rio.  It feels good to race against people that your level.  It pretty much just becomes a game of will power.  Great race!

Race people were retarded though unfortunately and didn't know how to work chip timing.  Oh well...

 Splits: 5:51, 5:52, 5:46, 0:41 AP was 5:47 with Garmin distance of 3.14.

Great race babe! I am so proud of the will power you have to pull ahead and keep a good pace. Way to play mind games with the amigos. :)
