This morning I ran 1/4 mile twice at about 10 min. pace. Hopfully I might be able to start running a few miles soon.  I went on a 40.4 mile ride on my mountain bike. 20 miles of it on dirt. 14 miles of the highway part was a 3 mile climb from Treasurton over the pass then 4 mile desent to the bear river just south of Thatcher. Going down the Thatcher side I had a tailwind and was cruising at 30 to 35 without much effort. It was almost as much fun as the climb back up with a headwind was work. I had to fight a headwind all the way home. The wind got a lot stronger halfway through my ride. I didn't get much tailwind on my way out but a lot of headwind going back. I was trying to somewhat simulate a long run and I kept my HR ave above 150 for 2 hours of the ride and averaged 148 HR for the whole ride which took 2:38. 15.3 MPH ave. Thats not to impresive on a road bike but with the wind and hills and 20 miles of gravel road it was a lot of work.

The last 20 mile run I did, 1 week before my injury, I ran in the same amount of time with a 140 HR  at 8:13 pace. So cardio wise this should have been comprable to running 20 at sub 8 pace. I hope.

Under the circumstances I decided to convert to running miles using 10 min. per mile.

PM  I did another slow run for 1/2 mile.

It's been 2 weeks since my little accident and 2 weeks of no running. I decided to try a little more this morning and ended up running 2.5 miles taking 1 minute walk breaks every 2 or 3 minutes of running. 10: 25 pace. It felt pretty good. It did start to tighten up a bit just before each walk break but didn't seem to be to bad after the run. I may try a little more tonight if it still feels good.

Then I went for a 20 mile mt. bike ride offroad. It felt pretty good after yesterdays ride and just wanted a good recovery ride. I actually ave. the same MPH as yesterday but my HR averaged 135 after yesterdays at 148. It was all about the wind and the 2 big climbs yesterday.

PM   I wasn't feeling any pain from this mornings run so I went for another. I feel a slight pain while running and feel like I have to stride carefully. I went 3.2 miles at sub 10 min. pace. Whahoo! I did walk breaks of 3 min. running 1 min. walking. I don't think I could go much faster or much farther between walk breaks but I could probably do more total distance but decided to play it safe. The last thing I need now is a step backward in my recovery.

This morning my hamstring was a little tight from yesterdays runs. I took off slowly to see if it would loosen up a bit but after 1/2 mile I realized it was harder to run because of more sorness than yesterday so I slowly ran the 1/2 mile back and decided not to run today. I decided I'm only going to run when the pain is better than or at least no worse than the run before. The hardest part of this recovery for me will probably be patience especially when I'm still thinking there's a chance at SGM. Every day that I can't run is frustrating. I went for a 15 mile ride on my mountain bike.

PM   went for a 12 mile bike ride off raod.

This morning I went for 20 on the mountain bike. I tried running again but after one mile I decided to rest it again. It felt better tuesday and I guess I did to much.

This morning the hamy felt a bit better so I went for 2 1/2 miles running slowley and taking walk breaks every 3 or 4 minutes depending on how it felt just trying to keep the discomfort to a minimum. It's been 5 or 6 hours since the run and it sill feels good.

I went 26.5 miles on the mountain bike and did kind of a progression ride. I did the first 9 easy at 137 ave HR. The next 9 harder effort at 147 ave HR. The last 8.5 at 156 ave. HR which is a tempo  effort for me. 10 miles were on pavement 16.5 on dirt.

ave. MPH 16.4

This morning I should have been running TOU half. It's one I had really been looking forward to this year. I was thinking it was realistic to run it around 1:23. Instead I'm running 3.5 miles at a 10 1/2 min. pace still needing to take walk breaks. This is basically the third week of  practically no running. Sub 3 at SGM is pretty much out of the question now [the race predicter had me at about 2:53].I'm just wondering if I will even be able to run it. It's a bummer when I think about how well things were going and it really wasn't even a running injury just a split second that changed everything.

    Went 6 on the bike.
