I wasn't planning on doing this run today after yesterday's outing didn't think I could, but a couple miles into it I started feeling pretty good so I decided to try it. Ankle was wrapped and I wore compression socks which seemed to help. Effort felt decent, I progressed the last three miles ending around a 5:50 last mile. Thought that doing this early might help to have fresher legs fot the big Spartan race on Saturday.

AM - 5.25 Short hill route. Legs were really tight to begin with but loosened up after a mile or so. Ended up feeling pretty decent. Nice morning to run.

PM - 8.1 /60 easy run. Legs started feeling great after 6, resisted the urge to go faster and just stayed at an easy pace.

Utah Spartan Race

12.33 - approx 3:30 really no idea my official time is way higher.

My wife signed us up for this and since they start in waves and you have to pay a extra $100 to start in the first wave I was committed to running this with my wife no matter how long it took. We started at 12:15 and I saw many people on the course with much earlier start times than us so to call this a race is pretty loose. I would call it a 12+ mile obstacle course because the only racing takes place in the first wave. Most people walked from obstacle to obstacle which made it impossible to run/ jog on any spot it was a single track through the brush up and down hills. I saw people fall over dead in the trail cramping multiple times. Most people who were around me were not even anywhere close to being in shape to do this. I started with my wife but also was trying to get in some type of workout. The first little hill we came to almost everyone started to walk ( not even 1 mile into it) so I walked/ran/bushwhacked my way to the top of the hill, paused my watch and waited for my wife to catch up. I ended up doing this between every water station and obstacle. I'd help my wife through the obstacle or get her a drink then run off to the next one. I tried to remember to pause my watch but it didn't happen regularly. I did manage to drag my wife up 1 hill that she grabbed on to the back of my shirt most of the climb. Overall it worked out well and she didn't get annoyed with me trying to get her to run or work harder and I got in a hill work out. I finished the last mile and 4 obstacles by her side and let her finish ahead of me while I raised my arms and clapped for her. She did great. I can say I completed all of the obstacles successfully and didn't have to do any burpees. The tire throw and sand bag lift almost did me in. I chucked the spear so hard it probably would've stuck in the wood not just the straw bale, but it stuck and I was happy. Fun, probably not to interested in doing another one. This race has to make so much money. Race entry + parking fee + bag check fee + spectator fee + sold out merchandise everywhere. It was crazy.
