High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

First run in this incredibly hot weather.   84 degrees F.   I was going to do a 5 mile tempo run, but due to the weather, and how I didn't feel too great after the first 2 miles, I cut it a bit short and had a mile cool down instead.  4 miles at 22.10.  I had mile splits in it, and those explain what I did wrong the first mile in the heat.  4:57, 5:50, 5:45, 5:38.  My cool down had a break in it, in which I drank lots of water at the golf course.  Then I cooled even more down home.  I now know that I need to get back into distance training or atleast half marathon training again if I want to do another half marathon in less than a month.

Today I felt pretty good, just really hungry.  That was before my run.  Then I ate a bunch, and realized that I only had about an hour to run.  So I got my clothes, and ran a mile to see how I was going to feel for the rest of the run.  I felt terrible, but I only had a bit of time to run.  I then started a 5-mile slower tempo, due to how I felt, and I just went.  I didn't do to bad, but I felt so terrible.  This was one of those runs where running isn't fun anymore.  I averaged a pace of 5:49, which I'm alright with, but if I was feeling good, I would've wanted a faster pace.  I then started feeling good after a small break, and took my dog on a half mile cool down.

Did a 5k like run.  Today was supposed to be my easy day, and my goal was an 18 minutes for it.  I ran the first mile at 5:30, which is slower than my regular first miles, my next 1.1 miles were at about a 6:45, so a bit slower than I wanted.  So I decided to bust it the next mile, and somehow got a 5:15.  I think where I thought my miles were are off, but I ended up with a 17:30.  Good time, but way too fast for a training run that was supposed to start out easy.

AM- went with the XC team, or atleast the next soph and fresh, in the morning.  Did 4 miles easy.

PM-  5 miles hard.  I pushed it like race pace, or atleast tried to.  27:21.  I felt amazing, and it was beautiful weather.  Nothing really went wrong during the run.

I ran a bunch more miles than I usually do this week, but it's alright.  I went on a 10 mile hard tempo run today from my house to smithfield canyon and back down to Mack Park.  This run is to see where I'm probably going to be running for the Utah Valley Half.  I felt amazing, except for mile 5, where my feet started hurting for some weird reason.  I ran with a Garmin to make sure the splits were on.  My splits were:  5:08(downhill), 5:32,(uphill a bit),  5:54(uphill), 6:18(uphill), 6:24(uphill), 6:04(uphill, then turned around and it was downhill) 5:23(downhill), 5:32(downhill, but it went slower then the previous mile because I went to get my shirt and it was stuck on a barbed wire fence), 5:25(downhill), 5:10(downhill, and a sprint on the last quarter mile.).  Overall I averaged a 5:41 pace, which is a lot faster than last years tempo run, so I'm excited for the Utah Valley half.    1.2 mile cool down after it.  The 1.2 mile cool down was the uphill that I just didn't want to do, so I went higher up the canyon, so I could do it as a cool down.
