Pre-high school: I ran a lot of local 5ks and a few half marathons.  I didn't do a ton of training, but I just had fun, and I got more serious about it as high school got closer.

High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Make sure I have fun, not get burned out, and get faster.

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

AM- Cold easy run.  19 degrees when I got back.  5 miles

PM-  I went and met up with Bryan.  Coach Wright had me down for 800m repeats, with 2 min. rest in between.  4-6 times.  Bryan said it would be best, because of the cold, to do them in a ladder form.  Goal was to do them in this order: 2:28, 2:24, 2:20, 2:16, 2:10, 2:20, 2:24, 2:28.  I did the first at 2:18 with a first lap of a 1:05.  I slowed the second one on purpose.  I felt great after this one.  The second one I did 2:20, I felt alright during this one.  Then during the third one I died.  I got a 2:20, but only bearly.  I wasn't feeling good at all.  My whole body just al out hurt, and I can't really explain it that well.  I did another at 2:21.  Bryan did that last lap with me.  Then he said I should atleast do a 400 to get the race pace feel to running again.  I did this one at 1:06, faster than what I was supposed to hit.  Then I did a 200m at 32, just to finish it up.  After that I just couldn't even do a cool down.  I didn't feel like I could breathe at all.  I hadn't eaten much all day, and I didn't get much yesterday either, so Bryan said that was probably it, and same with my mom.  I just hurt.

Hi Conner,

Pretty sure you know a lot more about running than me. But not sure I understand the concept of doing a ladder for half mile repeats. Personally I would stick with trying to run consistent splits for the workout at the prescribed pace to not compromise the later repeats.

Well the goal of the ladders was to find my paces that I would be running. At 2:24, I was supposed to find the race pace/effort I want to be having during Foot Locker.

Oh. When I saw the 2:10 split for the fifth repeat, I thought that was like mile race pace late in the already tough workout. It looked like the workout planned was for eight half mile repeats but maybe I did not read that correctly. When is the Foot Locker event? Hope you do well there. I'll Google it? What distance will you be running?

Yeah, that's foot locker. I'm hoping this year to be top ten in the seeded race which makes it to nationals. Last year I was 25th.
