2019 Running Schedule

Feb - Mesa Phoenix Marathon (AZ): 2:37:45. Lingering flu didn't help, but I still got a PR.

April - Bonneville Shoreline Trail Marathon (UT). Mostly just going to be a training run. Finally got myself into the sub-4 club last year, so I'll just have fun with it this year.

May - Stillwater Half Marathon (MN). Goal race for Spring. Looking for ~1:12.

October- Chicago Marathon (IL). We'll see where I'm at in Fall, but probably will be looking for low 2:30s.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy, make improvements, maximize my potential.

Personal:

I am a bioengineering PhD currently working as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Department of Neurology at the University of Utah, where I design and improve neurosurgical approaches for treating movement disorders.

Summer 2018 update: I'm lazy about copying over from Strava, so find me over there for day-to-day runs until I eventually get around to copying everything over here.

15.1 miles with my new Skechers that I got on eBay.  I bought them in red, white, and blue, and apparently this meant that they're the Chevron Houston Marathon edition, as branded on the insole.  Funny.  In any case, I planned on 18, but it was hotter than I expected at 8PM and I got really thirsty, and the shoes also started bugging my right heel slightly after about 10 miles (I really ought to break in new shoes I've never bought before if I want to do long runs in them), so I just went a little shorter.  My place to Legacy trail to some trail that intersects it up in Centerville right before the long tunnel under the highway, on that to 4th North in Bountiful, to 89, and back.  Casual AP of 7:50.  Marathon is in 11 days, so while I wanted this longer effort (and honestly, more), I don't want to do anything that isn't immediately recoverable at this point.  Bottom line is that I'm not even close to top fitness right now, but I'd estimate that I was in ~2:37-2:38 shape for St George in March, given good weather, unlike what I had at Phoenix, so I imagine I can still hang on for ~2:45, maybe a little better if I'm not stupid during the race.  My speed is fine, but my endurance just isn't great right now and my legs still seem feeble on longer efforts.  I wouldn't race, but I've wanted to do St George for years, so I owe it to myself to at least run it.  I do plan on correcting the feeble legs with some serious base work once I'm recovered.  A couple good months of unemcumbered easy high mileage really seems to last me awhile.
