2019 Running Schedule

Feb - Mesa Phoenix Marathon (AZ): 2:37:45. Lingering flu didn't help, but I still got a PR.

April - Bonneville Shoreline Trail Marathon (UT). Mostly just going to be a training run. Finally got myself into the sub-4 club last year, so I'll just have fun with it this year.

May - Stillwater Half Marathon (MN). Goal race for Spring. Looking for ~1:12.

October- Chicago Marathon (IL). We'll see where I'm at in Fall, but probably will be looking for low 2:30s.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy, make improvements, maximize my potential.

Personal:

I am a bioengineering PhD currently working as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Department of Neurology at the University of Utah, where I design and improve neurosurgical approaches for treating movement disorders.

Summer 2018 update: I'm lazy about copying over from Strava, so find me over there for day-to-day runs until I eventually get around to copying everything over here.

The day after my last run (7 days ago), my leg had a dull ache briefly, so I decided to take a little more time to make sure it's healthy. Stress injuries can be weird - it's often hard to tell if they're healed or not as dull aches can be present both when they're still injured and when they're recently healed. I want to string together some good training this winter, so I decided 4 weeks since diagnosis is smarter than 3.

In any case, I tried again today and did 3 miles on a treadmill after flying back into Utah. First mile was 6:35, 2nd was 5:57, 3rd was 5:37. I figured that if I wasn't going to go far, I might as well do it semi fast. I'm super out of shape, so it felt harder than it should've, but that's OK. Christmas was fun, although skiing in the midwest was even more pathetic than I'd imagined. Trollhaugen (under 100 acres, under 300' vertical drop) is not a real ski resort:

I hope I'm healthy, but I guess I won't know for sure for a little while. As long as the leg doesn't feel like it's getting worse, I guess that'll be good enough. The plan is to get into good enough shape to run Phoenix half without embarassing myself and then actually run the BOSHO trail marathon seriously this year. No more of this 4+ hour, second place crap. If someone beats me this year, they're going to have to run fast.
